He had more chances than most at AFL, but really never showed anything.
Glad he's gone, he and Twiddledum did considerable damage to the club's image with the drugs crap, and he stayed on the list as "Mr Innocent".
The sooner we move on from the past, the sooner we can lose with players of better character. Not many players who are drafted and are duds for two years, just turn it all around (for more than one season),
Fools gold and in Karl's case just a Mr T size fool.

As sad asd it is for Karl, maybe he just doesn't want to (or can't) commit to being an AFL footballer. Seems like Carlton got it right on delisting him.

At least this shows where the responsibility for Karl's inability to make it lies.

Karl - it's you... :?

Bloody drongo.

As for the suggestion that he "really never showed anything" Bookie - were you watching the same bloke I was? Could have been anything.

15 years from now when the knees, the money and the girls have all left him, there will be an old bloke sitting at a Pub TAB somewhere in country Vic with a pack of Winnie Blues telling anybody that will listen about what might have been!!!

The world is full of talented people. Success is 95% perspiration and 5% inspiration.

Good luck Karl, keep milking that 'couldabeen'. When the free drink cards dry up the memories will be all that is left!!

On the other side of the "ex footy star in the pub" coin; I've got a little story.

When we moved back to Melbourne in 1980; we bought a house in Caulfield, and I started having an after work drink every night at the local pub.

There was a tall well preserved elderly gent who was a regular drinker in the Saloon Bar;and during the day he was the "Lollypop Man" (School Crossing Supervisor) at the local State School.

Even though we all talked footy, he never said a word about his background till I was told his name (being a Carlton supporter)....his name was Harry "Soapy" Vallence; a Carlton legend of 204 games and 722 goals and an absolute unassuming gentleman.

We spent many hours in that first year talking about footy and our beloved Blues; and not long after that; Soapy moved away and eventually passed away....a Carlton Champion on and off the ground.

When I looked up his details today; I noticed he would have turned 100 on June 4 this year....I'm glad I knew you Soapy!

Revealed today that Karl failed to appear at training with the Bulldogs because he wants to play for the bombers. After some investigating i have also found out that Sheeds has spoken to Laurence Angwin aswell, the two have had several meetings and was challenegd by sheeds to prove why he should be given another go.

Karl may have changed his mind as he has found out about Sheeds plan to draft Angwin.

I will keep ye all updated

Bullshit.

This Angwin to Essendon* rumour has been flying high ever since he left us. It's absolute crap.
Norman won't be playing with them either.

Your source is shit, Kallan. Every one of your posts is about some false story that you trot out as gospel and none of it has proven right.

Can't we at least hope that all our cancer would end up at Essendon* at the same time?

It's almost a dream off-season for us to see Camporeale. Angwin and Norman there leading any youngsters astray :-D

Great story Warby. Ain't it true that so many great players of the past are so unassuming. Then there is me... I got three kicks in a game once for Warrnambool seconds and I still brag about it!
