Weird...

I wonder why as a of 16 kid I had to pay full tote odds to get into the Cinema but I wasn't allowed to see "Bedroom Mazurka".

that sucks huh???

camelboy... i know why.... but in that case they should just have a pre full membership for that age...

its ridiculous to have 16 y.olds pay the full whack but dont get full benefits.

Anyway im more interested in this voting process now....

I wanna know that we dont have just another Elliotesque group in power.

This is the first year I'll be a voting member, but I'm an AFL member with club support so do I have to register by a certain date?

For whats its worth, the issue of voting has been a contentious one at Carlton.People discovered several years ago that when they wanted to oust Elliot it was'nt as simple as a Club Member just turning up to vote.Fortunately this medium, and a well organised "people" machine, ensured that the numbers registered.

Not so 26 years ago, when 8000 or so of us Members turned up at Festival Hall(at the famous Harris kerfuffle) only to find the majority of us shuffled to one side, as we were not registered to vote.

The bottom line is that WE,(the members) have to be careful and ensure we are properly registered at all times.Someone else pointed out that they were concerned if they were registered and were advised that a fax of their signature was required.

How many were like me who re-signed over the phone?

At the very least, the Club following receipt of Membership applications, should mail out forms with the membership package advising the legal reqirements and the registration form.Additionally those that are ineligble because of their Membership type should be advised at the time of purchase..

Good post Dom, and dont forget back then... you did all this around 12 months from when you bought your membership.
This time with the meeting changed to March (God knows why?) ... people just arent registered and wont be registered i bet.
And the 'transparent one' is not as transparent as he promised.

Love to be proved wrong .

Lets find out

I am 90% sure that this "register to vote" was changed a couple of years ago and that all you have to do to vote at the AGM is to ensure that you currently are a member. If nobody here knows for sure I am happy to e-mail the club.

I think as many people as possible should touch base about this with the club.. because i doubt what you believe is true.

Hope it is.

Just tuned in, but I recollect something similar to Mikkey has indicated.

Let's get some feedback.

Agreed.

I renewed over the phone last year and assumed that some follow up correspondance would be sent allowing me to register for voting rights. But nothing to that affect ever arrived, which is why I asked last week when I started renewing over the phone, then ulitmately by fax.

Is there anyone here that can check to see who is actually eligible to vote in this election and what the process is?
A copy of the constitution would be invaluable right now...
Its important that we educate ourselves on the process if were going to be responsible members of this footy club.

something tells me just because you have a membership on the date does not mean you can vote.

Can we check this?

The important thing is we have a truly democratic process that allows ALL members to vote on the day.

On 23/2 I sent an email to the club asking for my voting eligibility as well as obtaining a copy of the constitution....since I had not received a reply by 2/3, I re-sent the email and am still waiting.....

P.S. I know they received the original email because I had put a READ RECEIPT on it.....

I think this is a non-issue. The membership form states that a membership includes "Voting rights for Members over the age of 18."

The membership package did not include any registration form and I clearly remember how the change (do away with the need to register to vote) was a priority of the new Board and on the agenda of the first AGM after they took control.

Edit: I found the documentation. When you sign the membership application you automatically get member rights, The changes were made at the 2003 AGM.

In 2004 another change was made so that once you had signed a form you would always be elligble to vote as long as you renew. So no issue if you renewed by phone.

I do however think that if you are a first time member and did it by phone you need to sign.

I found the document in the link from the time when the changes were made. Have a read:

Just rang the membership dept and asked the question.

I did not see a "register to vote" section on my membership form, but the computer says I am a registered voter. So the gent in membership said it will have been held over from previous years. If you had not previously registered you should have had that section on your forms, and you would have needed to fill it in.

BUT... I would recommend giving them a quick call on 1300 72 79 81 to check on your own situation. It took all of 30 seconds to check mine out.

Take responsibility for your own voting rights people.

Took your advice Mrs Caz and rang the membership department. You are right as always, it took 30 sec to confirm that I still had voting rights from when I had previously signed the voting registration form.

Mikkey's right. The club made a big deal of it a year or so back, there was a fair bit of communication from them and they sent out forms to each member over the age of 18 to complete which effectively made them voting members as long as they renewed their membership.

This is why the voting slip is no longer on the membership forms. So if you signed the form and returned it, you become a voting member upon renewal of your membership.

I don't recall ever receiving that information.

Thanks Mrs.Caz. Just rang the membership department and they confirmed that I wasn't registered for voting rights. They have posted an application for this in the mail and was advised that they were in the process of distributing these forms to members over the next week or so. I couldn't enquire further because I had my boss hovering around eavesdropping!!! Sorry folks nothing more to shed. I would assume that these forms would be sent to those members who aren't registered to vote.

If you can't remember where you put the cv you've already got the job.

The interview should be easy too since the person asking the questions is likely to have a hearing impairment and odds on any notes and diary entries will soon be lost anyway!
