He could introduce Fish Fillet Burgers, and "Blood of Christ" Cola.

They should get the Saints to play the Demons

Get Marc Murphy to toss the coin :)

Part of what makes us such a 'quaint' culture, is that we're probably the only country in the world who doesn't play major sport on Good Friday.

On behalf of fellow aetheists, other non-Christians and Christians who can't see any logic of not playing on Good Friday, let us watch our footy in peace. No one is holding a gun to your heads to go to the football, or even watch television on the day.

Narrow-minded traditionalists can piss off.

Why the AFL refuses to play AFL footy on Good Friday has absolutely nothing to do with religion. They just don't want to be seen to be going out of their way to compete with a charity appeal. They know that it'd be an unmitigated PR disaster if they ever tried.

Besides the AFL on Fridays is going back to Ch 7 next year and since they show the appeal it's really and null point. Ch 7 won't want them to play a Good Friday match.

How the hell does the AFL not scheduling matches on Good Friday have anything at all to do with a Good Friday appeal?

In fact, given the AFL's support for various causes - like the pink woman in support of breast cancer research - it could help raise awareness and more money by getting on board. Adding a dollar or 2 to ticket prices for a GF match, then donating that to the cause, and matching the amount dollar for dollar. 70 000 people at $2 $140 000 and another $140 000 more. I don't think the Hospital would sneeze at that.....

That's a mighty slim straw to clutch.....

I couldn't give a hoot about the religious aspect to good friday. The Royal Childrens Hospital Appeal has its one day off the year how hard is it to recognise the cause that helps so many get through such serious and dire situations

we have football on thursday, saturday, sunday and monday so why should football dominate a day that has been a custom to victoria for 75 years.

We can go with out footy for one day just shows that so many lifes revolve around footy.

The Uk and Italy along with Sydney and other states in Victoria dont have an appeal on for a childrens hospital on good friday.

There you go....You've just stated why there shouldn't be a problem with footy on GF.

The other Australian states don't have a Children's Hospital Appeal on GF, so why should the AFL reman so blinkered and Melbourne-centric and pander to them, rather than go with what the majority of Australians may want?

In fact, with more Sydney people getting into AFL, it could be argued that AFL fans in Melbourne maybe inded be the minority.

Like I said, if it's a Malbourne match, the AFL could support the appeal. If it's a non-Melbourne match, where's the problem?

No, there are far more important things to me than footy, but it's one of my enjoyable relaxations.

I just don't buy that a footy match on GF would damage the hospital appeal. If anything, like I said, it could benefit it.

And given that it's a public holiday, who's to say the match has to be a night match?

Great idea!

Carlton Vs Brisbane match every Good Friday afternoon.

When they've finished mass at the various churches around town they can all wander down to Telstra Dome and we'll feed them to the Lions... :-D

You've really nailed the meaning of Good Friday there.

Looks like an argument for playing footy to me...

While we are at it, who do we need to approach to have the pubs open after 6 pm?

Hell, we don't even get Sunday trading in Perth, so i don't fancy the chances of an Eagles-Dockers derby.

It's one of life's wonderful ironies:

people logged onto a football forum on Good Friday arguing that football has no place on Good Friday...

Football is played in places other than Melbourne.

I cannot see one decent reason why there cannot be a game on GF. Would be a cash bonanza for the AFL.
