Can I ask without being rude, is it "Jewed" because Jews stereotypically 'rip us off' or "Jewed" because we got "burnt" by the umps?

Serious question

hahahaha I am with you Paolo...

We get Demitrispewed regularly, but I don't want us moaning about it... we'll start to sound like Bummer's fans... If we are playing well enough the umps don't matter!

Go Blues!

I believe it comes from the thought that Jews are stingy, and being "Jewed" would indicate that we don't get our full measure and that the umpires are stingy with free kicks to us.

FWIW "gypped" is the same. A swipe at gypsies.

I was always under the belief that it's a swipe at Egyptians, and dates from when our WWI troops were stationed in Egypt and were swindled by storekeepers there.

Told you it's not "jibbed", jimmae

Students are usually surprised that "gypped" is from the word gypsy, reflecting the belief that Gypsies (people from East India and the Balkan states) will cheat you or steal from you.

It could have easily been applied by Aust soldiers to Egyptians.

Just the same as "wog" has slightly differing connotations in UK vs here.

Good goal by Hall in the 4th. Just managed to hook it in about a foot within the right goal post.

Really nice little screen provided by the umpire at the mark too

(sorry if that's already been covered elsewhere)

Oh god CK! I hated that, if that had've been Fevola who had've played on, the ump would have made him bring the ball back too! And on another occasion can't remember if it was fevola with the ball or not (going for goal, on a tight angle nera the swans player race), but O'Laughlan was told by the umpire once to get on the angle and 5 seconds later he drifted right back around... of course nothing was done about it.
The umpiring was pathetic and yeah we got more free kicks given to us in the end... but that isn't the point it is the consistancy that it is givin in. So many holding the ball decisions were given to them, but then blatent ones that should have been paid to us were left... free kicks like Whitnal holding on to Hall was given, when Hall had just pushed him in the back to mark the ball. And then when the umpiring called the ball up the social club end out of bounds, when he was 90 metres away from the @#$%&! ball and it was clearly still in play... grrr.
It was just pathetic... and the fact that the umpiring was even worse in the first quarter just makes you stop and think... if some of those pissy decisions weren't made and those clear decisions were made... then perhaps we might have just scraped in a win.
