I think both of these guys will make good contributions to our club. McLaren plays with his heart on his sleeve and we needed another big man to help out Frenchy. As for Saddington I reckon by mid-season we will see his value. Match fitness is his only problem at the moment. The main thing is that he contests and can play at both ends of the ground quite comfortably.

The one I'm excited about hasn't played a game yet. Josh Kennedy.

Saddington did about 10 times better than some of the duds you lot have been blowing your load over at different stages the last couple of years. Eg Chambers, Bowyer, Kenna.

He's never going to be a Dustin Fletcher or Mathew Scarlett, what do you sheep expect?

Dont see what McLaren brings to the table that is more valuble than what Bear was serving up last season

Go to training.
Watch how committed he is there.
Understand why he isn't getting a game
See TD put him under the pump
It's tremendous to watch that he doesn't look interested at training and doesn't get played!

Going from Friday's session I'd have to agree with that.

Saddo...looked rusty but give him another month or so. Nice goal though.

Mclaren looked like he's just won a flag when he took that mark

Could McLaren break the #10 curse?

Saddington is definetely the missing tall, mobile backman that has been missing from Carlton. Shows a bit of versatility in the forwardline. Will get better with a couple of games under his belt, and then he'll exploit his pace. He was everything I expected. I am looking forward to him having a long career with Carlton.

McLaren does wear his heart on his sleeve. Now we have two big blokes willing to throw themslves around, dive into packs, and use their body to their advantage.

I didn't think McLaren at 196cm was going to solve the ruck depth issue at Carlton when recuited, although I was looking forward to him coming to Princes Park. What he may lack in height, he may make up for with his competitive spirit, and around the ground marking. If he kicks a goal or two a game that will be a bonus. Jury still out, I want more from him. He has however made a positive difference to Carlton.

The word I would used for my impression of Saddington is polished - when he got the ball he didnt panic, disposed of it nicely and looked reasonable. He'll never be a star but I can certainly see him being a solid contributor for us for 5 years.
Mclaren, has done some good things in his 3 games so far but I'm not convinced. He doesnt get much ball around the ground and because of his height and the fact that his jump is not Jeff White-esque he loses the majority of the hit-outs. He does however work extremely hard and never gives in - very much in the same mould as Mcgrath. Not sure if he'll survive long term but if he doesn't, it won't be through lack of effort.
