Lets see if we can find somebody that can make an impact.

PS board member is hopefully sheldon[/quote]

Good choice if this is true. However, may have to "step outside" the room on certain occasions if Sam gets drafted?

I thought that the era of nepotism, croniism and unprofessionalism all aimed at maintaining some kind of silvertail old boys (or girls) club had passed with the departure of Jack. Obviously I am very wrong.

Wake up call to the board, we are $6m or so in debt!! We might have to go and beg to the AFL for money to keep going, we have won 2 wooden spoons in the last couple of seasons, we are at rock bottom. The time for worrying about tradition, pomp and circumstance has long gone. The good old days with Robert Menzies watching from his car on the sidelines are well and truly over! The days when we could just rely on 'old money' and backroom deals based on the old school tie have run their course.

If Caro's article is right our board seems to have a cross between Nero fiddling whilst Rome burns and some aristocrats rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

I hate to go all Richmond-esque, but how about we start pulling together. Maybe it is time for a bit of LEADERSHIP!! Maybe its time that ability, capacity and potential played more of a role in getting on the board than tradition, contacts and the size of your old man's bank book. Being a good old 'Carlton Person' is a noble, honourable and praiseworthy attribute. Sticking up and supporting your club for generations is great also, but that should never come into conflict with an ability to get the club going forward. Hell, if Eddie McGuire ran for the Carlton board I'd vote for him in a heartbeat!! No passion for the blues, no old school ties, no family history, not even a 'Carlton Person' but he'd get the club back where we want to be. Corporations go out and find people for their board because of the skills they bring. They dont check to see if the aspiring board member's dad ever worked for the company, if they've always bought the company's product, if theyve been a long standing supporter etc!!! They get put on the board to get the thing going and when they stop being effective, they're gone!!! How about we worry a bit less about the 1% ers like jumper numbers, change strips, traditions and free lunches and worry more about memberships, debt reduction and winning games of footy!

The sooner we dump all of this historical romantic b#$llsh1t and get on with running a footy club the better off we will all be!!

I doubt that there is much we could do with our jumper as we dont really have an icon like a bird or animal that can be played around with.

I have had a go at some designs myself but there is so little you can do with CFC. I have to say im not happy with the white but there is little we can do.

I would have throught the last person you'd accuse of disloyalty was Sticks.

Everything else you've said about him makes some sense and there's little doubt he's Vice President because of who he is not what he offers, but I dont see a problem with him staying neutral. Its more a sign of being loyal to Carlton than to himself.

he thing with sicks is he will never ever get voted off.

So he can hedge all his bets and when he loses he can just mosey on over to the other side.. no matter who they are as if nothing happened.

Ok This is a true story...

Off the topic abit but...

Rita Silvagni says to Elliot!!!...

Errrrrrrrrrr Jack???When are we going to have a woman board member ?"

Elliot the champion footballer replied... "Woman board member???Sure!!When she plays 100 games of VFL/AFL footy!"

Jack forgot he didnt play footy at the highest level nor did alot of other board members..

But Diggins sounds like shes out of her depth....

As a female I find these revelations about Diggins embarrassing. I firmly believe a female should be on our board, but let's lose the tokenism and appoint one that actually contributes something to the club.

Diggins should step down before she is voted out, which is ultimately what will happen when she is up for re-election.

The problem at the time in October 2002 when Mathieson/Collins started putting together the ticket to oust Elliott - there wasn't a lot of time, they just needed people willing to put their hand up. We need a woman on the ticket - Lorraine Diggins daughter of a Carlton Premiership Captain/Coach no worries your in. As we said sounded like a good idea at the time, probably goes for a few others on the board that were dragged onto the ticket.

We don't 'need' a woman on the ticket. Tokenism/sexism like this has left us with a lame duck board member who really should step down right now

It's quite hilarious how everyone is suddenly, and I mean suddenly, jumping up and down like crazy about Lorraine Diggins.

Lorraine Diggins is known through my extended family. When she was appointed my grandmother told me that she had not attended a Carlton game for a long time.

Compare that sort of passion to what some people on this forum would bring to the table if they were board members, and you have to ask the question as to how she was appointed and who is ultimately making these decisions.
