AND DO QUESTION A BLOKE - ANY BLOKE'S - ONGOING WORTH TO A TEAM. There are no Gods at Carlton merely champions whose time passes.

sorry didn't mean to shout - damn caps button!

Look, we are all a bit emotional when it comes to kouta and understandably so.

I think we would all agree tho is that kouta chasing and manning up of his opponent is below par and has been since the start of last season. And in the current days of flooding and the short kick, having someone who doesnt chase hard is a problem.

Should we expect kouta to be able to chase like fisher, waite, etc. That is the question?

I personally expect him to be able to do so as I feel having a weak link in this department really hurts us and his unaccountability places a higher burden on his teammates.

But in any event, in reality, we are never going to drop kouta. We will carry him thru this season playing him in the center at the bounces, then have him to go to the forward pocket and also spend a fait bit of time on the bench.

I think we probably owe kouta that in his final year.

I have been observing Kouta since round 1 and i dont think Kouta is passed it in regards to being able to play football but i think this is definately his last year

From what i have observed and being at the game helps alot as he dosnt have nay heart / assion or desire to play anymore.. Dosnt chase .. dosnt really contest unless the ball is right next to him ... Even leadership wise is lacking from what i can observe.

He looks to be going through the motions until his contract expires and then will pull the pin ... i dont think he really wants to play anymore but is playiong as its his last year of his contract .. just the body language and maybe its the past injuries catching up ... the umm constant loosing over the last 3 years .. or maybe most of the old guard are gone and he is the last one ... or some of the Collo barbs about his contract but he clearly dosnt look to want to be playing anymore..

Rem what he said on his 250th game i didnt do much but its about time some of the younger brigade stepped up maybe that meant more than just that game

yep, though apparently from verbs's responses we should not be discussing this. 8)

ANd i dont think that Kouta compares in this year to Hird / Bucks or Voss watching them plkay they still have the ability and yep have lost pace and that but i still see Hird / Bucks and Voss chase even if they dont succeed /- as in the recent Voss chase. there is till passion and determination in there games ... Kouta just looks like he will be happy when 2006 is finished and he can retire

Kouta is Kouta, does what he can, does give it his all, even though his all now isn't as much as he used to be, can't do the things he used too, but can manage to kick a goal or 2 even when he isn't playing his best. He is just an average player now, thats all we can expect from him. But is one of the best players, EVER.

nobody is disputing him in his credentials of being or the fact he was a champion player and yes he will prvide servicable output and prob play every game this year but watch closely and you will see there is no more desire, passion or determniation in his footy. Even if he is slower he still can show that he is chasing ... contest when he can ... still go in and under.. but if you observe these are no longer elements of his game and he really just looks like he is going on the field doing what he needs to do but i really reckon come end of season he will pull the boots up and retire

Reason he has had enough and has lost his desire for the game

If he has lost his desire for the game... he should ask for a trade to go to Essendon*.

Sheedy loves those kind of challenges. 8)

He is gone...

How long can an elder statesman continue to be passionate about football when his side is losing more games than they are winning. Kouta unfortunately is playing out his days not for the future of the club nor for the money ( no matter how good it is ) BUT Kouta continues to play because we ( the Match Comm) need him.

I really believe that unless Pagan can find a permanent position for Kouta week in week out, he will be of less value to our team as we move forward. Kouta is no longer our "Go To Man " our "Mr Fixit " or "Mr Make it Happen".

I personally believe that Kouta worth to our team might just be to play him in a set position and only if he is getting beaten move him form that position. Now what position? IMO i wouldn't mind seeing Kouta playing in the forward pocket.

Fev our leading forward our "go to forward". Who can kick goals from anywhere on in the forward line.

Fisher our roaming target, who can take pack marks, can create space and offers movement in the forward line, who is still capable of kicking goals here and there. ( 40 a year would be an achievable target)

Thus Kouta can dropp back into the square when options are being created by our forwards. He still warrants a good player also. And with this Pagan Game Plan he at least gives us an Option when everyone is flooding. Kouta should not be part of any flood. He has the strength to at least provide a contest and bring the ball to ground. And with any luck Kouta playing deep in attack means our goal sneaks ( onballers ) might have every opportunity to get to the fall of the ball.

Now our Problem is CHF and although this is Waites position now, i think that with Kennedy being groomed this could be his position for the taking.

So our forward line for mine for now is.

Kouta Fevola Betts
Fisher Waite Lappin

Moving Forward...

One of Carlos Bryan Deluca, McClaren or whoever can command this position(FP) - Fevola (FF) - Betts ( FP)
Fisher(HFF) - Kennedy(CHF) - Waite(HFF)
Now there is plenty of tall timber there, but lets not forget ( without having seen Kennedy ) that is also a very mobile forwardine. Fisher and Waite capable of pushing up to the Wings roaming contesting, Fevola a leading FF who we all know can kick goals from anywhere . Carlos(or FP) to cover the square when Fev provides the Option. Betts our Crumber, with support to come from onballers who should be coached to be more alert to pushing forward as we will always have at the very least a One on One Contest in the goal square if all else fails when we continue to play this flooding game of the modern era.

Go on People talk to me. Can it work???
:-D :-D

There is no doubt he can't do the magic he could years back, he's a modest man and some people do not fully understand the impact he has on this football club.

Each year many supporters purchase a membership because of Kouta, he has been the face of our club during our darkest times, We all know we really haven't had anyone else to take on the top job and this is not Kouta's fault.

When he does retire I will remember him in his glory days and won't take cheap shots based on his recent form.

im not denying the fact that kouta was a champion. but that is exactly my point as well, kouta WAS a champion. Why is there such a stigma attatched to dropping him beack to the ants to get a little bit of passion for the game back.

Kouta performed last night like fev performed last year. he didnt look interested, he didnt chase, and whats worse, i dont really remember any kicks, apart from how he passed to fish for goal 1, that actually hit their targets.

yeah apparently he was sick and didnt get out of bed until 4pm....then he shouldnt have bloody played. we have plenty of fit players in the magoos that would be more than willing to take his place and play with their heart on their sleeve like we saw from stevo an lance. There should be a change at carlton where instead of becoming an automatic selection we should become unafraid to play a game of footy without kouta on the ground. like i said in another post, there will be life after kouta, and given his performance last night, i think that time will be sooner rather than later.

Kouta laid loads of good tackles in close just when you thought they were getting away. Big physical tacles too.Kicked a couple of goals and assisted in another.Pagan knows his worth to the side. Sure in the modern game he has trouble picking out players amongst the congestion but so does every player. Couldnt drop him ahead of Lappin (who i wouldnt drop either)who has lost all his composure since round one.
Leave him be to finish the season off. Dont start a classic TalkingCarlton witch hunt. They are embarrassing. The media get a hold of it and before you know it its more bad news for the club.

PS. Anyone notice Voss losing all leadership skills this year. Laughing at the coach when they are 8 goals down at Geelong and giving up the chase last week. HE has lost it.

Kouta in forward line is his future this year IMO. Has taken quite a few strong marks this year. i think his days in the midfield are numbered, others have really stepped up this year in the clearances so the reliance on Kouta at clearances is reduced.

I'm against playing Kouta at the Bullants, the man will still require a quality player against him. Kouta maybe slower but i would still favour Kouta in 90% of one one one contests up forward.

I like Tractor Boys forward line, with Kennedy given 10-12 games in a forward line rotation. Fisher and Waite can peform the task of Deluca and they obviously also have the speed to make and impact in that role.
