Derek Humphrey-Smith explained last night on WLF how the decision against Lance was correct. I have to agree. Under no circumstances should a player be advantaged by reading the play and positioning his body accordingly, that would constitute football ability something that can not be measured with a stopwatch at draft camp. In fact I believe that the "Whitnall" rule should be expanded on further. Whenever Lance takes a mark (even if uncontested) through superior judgement or positioning it shall be deemed play on unless Lance can demonstrate some sort of athletic ability to the umpires. Maybe they can carry a tape measure in their socks and demand Lance perform a verticle leap to acceptable AFL standards before any mark is paid.
