There's always a window for improvement for everyone at anything they choose, as long as they have the passion and desire to succeed. To improve they must follow the golden rules.

Golden Rule No 1:

Practise, Practise, Practise.

Repitition is the mother of all learning.

Golden Rule No. 2

Coaching, Coaching, Coaching

Coaches identify problems, highlight the problem, and teach correct method ie develop the transition from problem to perfection

Golden Rule No. 3

Simulation drills, and more drills.

A variet of Drills using these skills, and simulating typical game situations. This is required and needs perfecting before expecting it happen on the real stage, where its no longer a simulation exercise.

Golden Rule No. 4

Understand the game plan. The Game plan.

You need to have one, and the players must know what role their strengths play in the game plan, and also need to comprehend how to minimise exposing their weaknesses.

We are a young team, playing senior footy against more skilled and experieced campaigners who load on the pressure on these kids, hence the mistakes. Gotta be patient with them, we can't change their age overnight.

On the other hand, I am not sure if I have the confidence to say that our coaches are following the golden rules effectively. We can pressure change if it is true that they are not.

CARLTON'S Ryan Houlihan says the Blues have worked diligently to avoid a repeat of last week's ugly loss to the Tigers in tomorrow's clash against the old enemy Collingwood at the MCG.

But he said the Blues had placed a heavy focus on skills during the week in a bid to arrest a four-game losing streak.

"It definitely was ugly," he said. "The game these days is so quick and the turn-overs can cost you so much.

"So this week has mainly been working on kicking and all of that type of stuff and hopefully we get it right Sunday."

In a season the Blues were hoping to climb the rungs after claiming the wooden spoon last year, Carlton has so far managed just one win.

Despite this, Houlihan said the players remained confident that a turn-around was not far away.

"I think we are not too far away from it, we sort of had three games where we could have won," he said.

"The feeling around the club is very positive. If we win this week it makes it two and four and we're sort of back in it so it's a very important game for us.

"You never drop your bundle, it's only Round 5. The confidence is definitely still there."
