C'mon Sydney and Surrey, sometimes it seems like theres a horde mentality but you know what it's like - some more outspoken posters will join in on a view and the opposing views just go quiet because it's a) not worth arguing b) not enough time or c) clear that its just a differing opinion. I just gave up defending Beaumont as a player.

What irks some posters as simplistic answers to the big ones of 'Why are we still down the bottom?' - pagan is sh!t is not on its own an answer.

I think there are alot of people who question pagan's worth and we should all do it every day, against what we may need now, what he's doing, who he's developing, if they're developing etc.

But back onto Setanta, its clear that someone who makes obvious mistakes but does some very very good things that are a little less showy created divergent opinion. I look past the mistakes because he will learn, eventually. His very very good things and his athletic ability make him worth persevering for for years IMHO, even if he mucks up a hell of a lot.

Molsey our simplistic approach of saying Pagan is Shit is no more or less simplistic of those who defend Pagan because he was delt a bad hand . The only difference the Poster like myself and Surrey dont try attack the intellect of the posters with opposing views to us .

Thats where the problem lies - Support Pagan and you are a reasoned intellegent poster - Criticise him and you are an idiot . That is why so many poster who dont support Pagan dont post here

So forget all about Facts this is all about opinion and if you want to use facts make them suit your arguement

All I am saying is seeing this is just a football discussion board why not state your opinion as fact to try and better your arguement .

Sydney - if you read back over this thread I wasn't defending Pagan at all. I was backing up danny who said that what Surrey was claiming as a fact was merely an opinion.

On the other hand, don't bother - you win.

"Why do we have to bring facts into it."

"Forget about facts..."

"Use facts..."

"State your opinion as fact..."

I can't argue with any of that because I don't have a @#$%&! clue what you are on about.

In future episodes of this thread dannyboy will play the part of GWS. Besides he started it... :?

Disagree - Pagan is sh!t just says nothing on its own. It's the equivalent of saying 'F&ck off' when you've got no better retort.

He was dealt a bad hand but the issue is for me - should we be better off than this? And the answer has to be yes. Too many retreads, not enough chances to kids. It looks like we believed our relative success in 2004 / early 2005 and thought it would come but boy were we / Pagan / the Club completely wrong.

And your last line is just sh!t (see - it doesn't work?). There are lots of posts in here debating Pagan's methods, development style, has his time past, is he doing the right thing, would we be any better off with a different Coach, would we be further back up the ladder if Pagan had done this, that or the other.

I dont think anyone has called BV an idiot for his Pagan critiques. No one has called GWS an idiot until today. Its not about idiots and sh!t.

Ryan, to be honest I am not sure about AIsake at all, the pies link came from the camp tehy had here about 6 years ago, Aisake would have been too young, but I also think the pies came in late for Setanta when he first went out there so you might have got it from that, they may then have made a move for Aisake also.

Well.................we got both so @#$%&! Em!

I'd love the CFC and Sydney to come up with some kind of makerting campain and play a game between each other in Dublin........maybe a pre-season game or just an expo match (similar to the likes of the London matches or the recent LA match.)

Could you imagine Setanta & Aisakie lining up for the Blues Vs Sydney with Kennelly @ Croke Park.............WOULD GO OFF!

I'd love to go back to Dublin one day and if a match like that was gonna take place i'd be there in a heartbeat! :-D

Who was at Williamstown when Setanta kicked 7 goals from FF?

Thinking through that achievement, albeit at a lower level, and then doing well in defence at the weekend.....

And forget that he's Irish and new to the game...

Wouldn't you assume we've got a good player? Add 198cm in height and sensational pace and wow, I just can't see how someone can't be excited about Setanta.

sorry about that GW

as for Setanta, the thing that sticks in my mind is a training drill.

All players in groups of about 6 race to and from between two markers, say 30 meters apart *please note this measurement is not fact, but a wild stab in the dark* - last moves to his left, winner to his right, the idea being the fastest end in one group and the lumbering giants in the other.

Setanta made it to that first group - amazing considering each time he had to turn the little buggers swept past, then he'd catch them again before having to turn, catch again, turn, catch again.... For a big bloke this display will stay with me forever. The bastard is seriously fast.

That would be unreal, and now that HQ has opened to other sports it could be a reality. With more Irish than English having made it, and a huge Aussie population here I would love to see a game between those two, AND it would be a good way to recruit, run a few clinics while they are here, go look at some Gaelic games, see if anyone stands out, look at some footy games also, see how boys are adapting to it.
It would get a good few thousand anyway, if marketed properly

Beano, I hope you notice and appreciate some of the more informed comments on Setanta :)

Most of us are behind him all the way and can see not only the potential, but also the great signs he's showing already.

Don't let the few neagtive nellies get you down.

having spoke about this, it does Setanta more good than harm, he takes this stuff, for a long time, by one ex player, and uses it to spur him on when it gets tough.

Give us a clue beano.

Anyway, Setanta is on the way, and one thing about guys who come halfway round the world to play a foreign game, they are likely to be really mentally tough. Think of some of the AFL sooks who won't even move interstate.

To be honest I can think of one or two ex carlton boys, Mr. Norman and his mate who weren’t ½ as committed or as mentally tough

Beano I dont no if it is mental tuffness that they lacked but rather a real desire.

Just glad the Big O's have it as well as bucket loads of desire.

Ah Mr Stynes. I thought it was a Carlton ex player. Anyway Setanta didn't have a great game on the weekend, but it was nowhere near as bad as the 4 goals Murphy kicked on him might suggest. 3 were from unstoppable passes from free running Docker midfielders. Hopefully Pagan will stick with him. One important thing is to try make sure Setanta, Blackwell and Russell get to play agauinst the Hawks and Tiges as those games are our only chance of a win for the rest of the year.

Makes you wonder if Setanta's opponent is the designated 'go-to man' for the opposition - Murphy yesterday, and McVeigh late in the 3rd quarter/early 4th quarter last week.

For most of the first half Murphy was playing very wide to make sure Pavlich wasn't double teamed but then became the go to man. But Murphy is a very promising lead and kcik full forward, only had about 5 kicks and never looked like missing. I think Setanta is more likely to be a CHB than FB. But I'm not sure anyone would have stopped three of the passes Murphy got on Setanta or the 4th he got while on Banno. We have to get the ball and use it in the midfield. When we give it away the defenders are burnt. When the Dockers were serious yesterday they were a class above. Towards the end of the 3rd term they gave it away and there was less pressure down back.
