We've got to get back to the way we were.....when we were envied as being ''The Silvertails''.

Unfortunately; the ''bad years''....wooden spoons....salary cap cheating etc., blotted our copybook in a disastrous way; and put as back in some ways with the also rans.

We were then seen as vulnerable and weak; and I'm sure some big money disappeared from our supporter base; unavoidably, some from the death of ''Carlton Familý'' Patriarchs etc.

But; we weren't winning....we weren't feared as we once were....we weren't hard enough on the ground and off it as well....some players virtually did as they pleased, and got away with it.

I love the way we're playing this year; and I'm really optimistic about our on field chances....but with fingers crossed.......

But we need the whole Club to be on the ball; and members are an important part of the equation for our continued push to once again be a Club to be feared and respected.

So you're saying our ticket to higher membership numbers is to be more elitist? :P

No........to be more successful on and off the ground....to be envied by other Clubs as we once were.

fairest measure would be based on revenue and not volume.

for instance, just checked tigers premium 16game membership and its a fair bit cheaper than our premium 18 game ($31 per game v $39 per game) or close to.

too many other variables (cats, dogs, 3 game memberships, interstate memberships etc etc) to look at volume and get any meaningful understanding.

We have had a fractured supporter base for the best part of 10 to 12 years
It will take another 10 years of reasonable success on field to repair this

The way its going, Collingwood will have doubled our membership by the end of next season.

Apalling really.

Even Richmond is ahead of us .......and they've done nothing for 30 years!

These membership numbers are very dissapointing given the start to the season we've had. If they dont improve substantially I think a root and brach review of the Membership Department would be in order. Analaysing the 'churn' would be an absolute priority.Having home games split between 2 grounds is an issue and the sooner we get to the MCG the better. Having a settled home venue would certainly develop a sense of belonging and community. Fair point too about the yield from membership being a preferrable measure than volume but still would have nice to have the numbers given the history and overall success of the Club. Pies have up a dozen membership categories so are really trying to be all things to all supporters and it looks like they get looked after as well in terms of freebies.

Can't do that, they're busy hounding people to buy their $200 raffle tickets.

You seem a bit annoyed.

Next time they ring test them out.

Like if they ring following the Geelong game, ask them how they thought Kreuzer played!

Or tell them you are on the do not call register.

3 problems:

1. If you are indeed a passenger you're unlikely to read this email.
2. If you are the type of fan to get frustrated at Carlton's failings over the past decade you're unlikely to be visiting one of the most obvious failing - our website (particularly to be subject to a guilt trip)
3. If we're short of members aren't there more effective avenues to fix this?

It seems that the club has finally recognised that perhaps there just might be a problem. The only problem being they don't seem to have a clue what to do about it.

That will help no end

But until that ends, we need to be a regular finals campaigner - win more games than you lose, play finals at the MCG will go a long way until No.17 comes our way

You can't plan a business around a best case scenario. Your business has to be able to survive and thrive without the equivalent of a premiership. We're a few years post our pain and could be doing better. Regardless of that, we need to be ensuring the key elements of a business like this one - players, supporters, sponsors - are being done at the very top level of quality or we'll miss out.

The premiership is then the icing on the cake and the party that we all have.

We shouldn't need a flag to have more members than Richmond and St Kilda FFS

I am convinced we need to change home grounds to increase numbers. MCG (and Princes Park? :gift: ) will bring back supporters and entice new ones. Supporters love us for being a big stage club and the MCG is where it's at. Etihad is a turn off.

Board, are you listening?!!

I don't get the 'move to the MCG and watch the membership soar' equation.

On my membership ticket it says where my seats are for the G and for Etihad. WIN! I get to see the Blues play footy! If the ticket said Brunswick Street Oval on top of the rise overlooking the tennis courts, I'd go and watch the Blues there, too. If it was some windswept suburban oval tucked away in Brunswick, I'd be there with bells on. Jeez, I'd watch them play in the street.

So what is it?

Is it ego? Are supporters embarrassed by having a home game split between the MCG and Etihad, while Pies luxuriate at the G?

It can't be comfort or family friendliness. Etihad wins on both fronts in my books.

What do interstate members think? Are they anti-Etihad as well?

Illuminate me so I may understand ...

I view my interstate/long distance membership as a donation to the club; there's no real value in it.

To answer your question though: from a viewing perspective I don't give a rats arse where we play, I don't even care if we win or lose; I'm just happy to watch my team play.

From a strategical point of view, I'd rather play at the MCG because we have a better record there.
