Look, every team in the AFL has it's fair share of flower supporters. But sadly i do think that the culture of Carlton needs to change before we can start thinking about premierships again.

With that said, I don't think Malthouse is the right man to change us.

If he's such a good coach................... why did Collingwood not keep him? Or worse still.......... why would they ever let him go to their bitter rival?

Why do some people seem to want to put everyone one definitive bracket? It's lazy and it's uninformed.

It is our lack of success and the fact we are still a bottom club there are a lot of opinions out there regarding issues we may or may not have and how we should fix it. What is wrong with that? That's what makes football and football clubs what they are. It's what drives the media and creates interest.

People are frustrated and people are angry and fair enough. Nothing seems to change. The key point is we all want success for our club and if that happens I don't care who is coach.

We are NOTHING like Richmond, We are NOT Richmond and will NEVER be Richmond.

To complement that we had Micks best mate coaching the midfield last year who hadn't coached AFL for the best part of a decade. How did that go? The fact it lasted less than a season is telling.

So instead of trotting around with your holier than thou attitude making judgements on what sort of supporters the rest of us are, try not bundling everyone into the same basket.

It's not that some good points about Mick's behaviour aren't being made, it's that it's bordering on a pack mentality that's in danger of ending up the pot calling the kettle black.

Maclure's comments on AFL360 were embarrassing, especially when challenged by Whateley.

I like the way MLG has stood up to Mick rather than pandering to his every whim and letting him get away with a sh1tty attitude. That sh1tty attitude can work its way through the club and its supporters, so MLG was right to bring MM into line a bit.

I'd like to see it. I think we're in the minority though (in the sense that if you did a member survey, and asked what the ideal outcome post-Ratten were, it would have been chequebook solutions, but with Roos instead).

If we signed Richardson/Hinkley/whoever else untried, and from outside the club, do you think the great unwashed would be treating them any differently or better, in the situation we're in now?

derm actually doesnt mind the blues. hates them as a competitor, but has a soft spot for them because of his buddies back in frankston.

i know the guy and have alot of time for him. however, his positions at times are not well thought through.

in this case i believe he makes some solid points.

in particular, malthouse isnt here to make friends. we would be short letting him go now. much better off sticking it out and as we did 50 years ago rebuilding.

I agree with both of you.

There are plenty of people who would like t see the club discover we've somehow stumbled into the 21st century, which would include all three of us I imagine.

But I also believe we'd be overwhelmingly in the minority.

He did indeed say he wanted MM signed long term, but I reckon he honestly did not remember saying that, and I'm glad he's changed his mind.

spot on BV, and to read that Mad Mick might get an extension at seasons end is astinishing. Why on earth would we consider that. Because we have performed so well this year? Not. Because mick projects such a positive clear image and direction for the club? Not. Because others are trying to sign him up? Absolutely not. Because his great promotion of the. Club and ability tto connect with supporters and articulate a clear plan forward has driven memberships up? No. So why why why? We all believe we need long term planning and commitment. The malthouse appt was certainly not guided by that. He has done nothing so far to show he is the man or that he is committed to anything beyond his own legacy. Yes he has been a great coach, and has been are the operative words. If he is re-signed at the end of the season, my membership will lapse for tge first time since I was ten, way back when we were just about to become a great side.

Incorrect to blame the supporters as the sole source of that.

But the general point is valid.

We didn't get Mick because he's nice - we wanted a harder edge.

Mick just needs to understand when the media hysteria is getting too much oxygen & when to mind his demeanour / lay low for a while.

It will blow over.

To me this week it is not so much that he is vicious and nasty when asked to explain anything about his coaching to anyone who "hasn't played the game", he has always done that. It is more that when we go in at halftime only 7 pts down ag the top side, Mick wastes time and energy abusing Cameron Ling for decisions of the people directing Ch 7s coverage and then, even worse, at the start of the 3rd qtr, he is sticking bits of paper to the coaches box window. This is unbelievable behaviour. It is so childish. It's one thing to throw the phone in a moment of anger but to react like this 30 minutes later says a lot about his pettiness and immaturity.
