Not every negotiation has to be out in the open with emotional ranting. Pissing the AFL off is not going to help us. I would expect a good President to be working with political nouse behind the scenes to ensure we get the best deal, while at the same time achieving the AFL's goals. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I agree. I'm somewhat sceptical we have that good President but would love to be proven wrong.

No offence, but get real.

Again, I'm not particularly interested in Brisbane and what they end up with. I'm interested in not ending up with just pick 1 and 19 if there are better options on the table.

Objectively, 2, 3 & 19 considerably better than any of 1 & 19, 1 & 2, and 1 & 3, so that is what we should be trying to engineer.

For all we know, our recruiters don't even rate Schache.

Who says it's Schache they are after? That might be a ruse all along which is what I'm worried about. If the AFL were to diddle us out of our rightful pick (if Kreuzer leaves) then they could achieve the same effect by giving us a priority pick before the first round. Brisbane then gets pick 2 with their PP and we retain pick 1, gain 3 and probably 19(ish).

Free agency compo a nuisance and a nonsense. Has always muddied draft. Now ready to haunt AFL. If being fair Carl has to get 2 for Kreuzer.
Lions can moan all they like. Rules are rules and somehow they found a way to finish second last, which was a list manager's nightmare ...

Free agency itself should be scrapped. If a player wants to leave then a trade will usually be found.

As it is if Kreuzer leaves then the AFL have to give us picks 1 and 2. The only way for the AFL to avoid this is for Kreuzer to stay at Carlton. We won't see it, but behind the scenes the AFL will be doing all in its power to generate this result. If Kreuzer stays then we get pick 1 (Weitering) and Brisbane get pick 2 (Schache). All the other team keep their first round picks. I can't see anybody wanting Luenberger anyway. So how Brisbane deserve a band 1 compensation pick for him I'd like to know.

I like ur thinking.....like I said in another thread after reading the dribble from Bris Prez it's a win win situation. 1 & 2 is gold but 2,3 and 19 is platinum.

On top of 11ish for Hendo equals PORN!!!!

That's a quarter of the icing on the really good kids in a shallow draft. Massive leg up over every other club

Absolutely. Trigg and Gil are old St Peter's College boys so no doubt they'd also be due for a catch-up at some stage.

The comments from the Brisbane Chairman smacks of desperation from someone who knows what is coming.

If the industry word was that Kreuzer was getting offered unders, and the AFL hand no intention of Band 1, then there would be no need to be campaigning through the media.

Our player has not decided if he is leaving or not yet
It would be hardly fruitful for the club to get on the front foot demanding compensation if the player decides he will accept our contract.
Sometimes you just need to stop and think

Spot on Sydney, there should be no public comment from Carlton until Kreuzer makes his mind.

How about the AFL stop all the conjecture by giving Brisbane and Us a priority pick so we get 1, 3, 4 Bris get 2 , 5 and we are all happy

Lol, now not even the AFL could contrive that shit up and have 16 other clubs still lapping at their feet.

Now 2,3 and 19 is a different matter.....

Can't believe the Bris chairman came out and said Carlton and Brisbane are similar in terms of list and performances.
I would have thought Brisbane would have been more likely than us to get a priority pick given the dearth of first rounders on their list, so by saying Bris and similar to Carlton he's essentially said Carlton should get a priority pick too.
Strange.
Unless he thinks the best approach is to lobby the AFL fore both clubs to get priority picks, at least that way Bris get theirs.
But I'm not sure he is that smart.
Very strange the things he said, agree it comes across as desperate.

When will people remember... Brisbane traded Crisp, 5 and 25 last year for Beams!!!!!!!! Them asking for a first rounder is like Carlton asking for us to get Picks 9,12 and 18 for our wasted picks on Russel, Lucas and Watson! Can't reward bad list management!
