but very dissappointed to see 1 or 2 playing the man again.

think about how you are posting please.

I remember the great teams of the past Some with Ball players and others who could take blokes out ( play the man )... Good to see we have a healthy balance eh Mrs Caz ??? :P

Now that the club has ill-advisedly re-contracted Kouta for next year, here's how they should play him:

Give him four spells a year, 3-4 weeks on and 2 weeks off. So when he does play, at least his body won't hold him back so much.

Play him off the bench through the middle, for no more than 60 minutes a match.

No point playing him up forward or down back - he can't mind a man, and he's not mobile enough to play forward.

Hope for a wet autumn and winter to negate his lack of pace.

Give him a VERY SPECIFIC TASK - Kouta, your job is to protect Mark Murphy and (possibly) Bryce Gibbs in the centre square. Put your body in, take the hits for them, clear a path, assert yourself.

Is he up to this? If not, you'd really wonder why we'd re-sign him for another year.

A chance too move on, pretty silly to not retire him. An extra spot we good have used too promote a flint or draft another kid.

His mobility and impact is not that of a Buckley or Hird from what I can see.

Glad for what he has done, but time just too let natural courses take over and retire.

Having said that I hope he is able too have an impact.

Were you told to shut the @#$%&! up David??

10% of this contract wont have you in the style of living that you have grown accustomed to, and 10% of the next one should hopefully see you on the bones of your arse under a bridge you turd.

Hey Agro, don't know about that mate. 30K from Kouta and 50K from Hamill just in 2007 isn't bad for doing nothing.

While everyone has a right to an opinion, DUC, do you honestly think he is of value to the club on the field?

His game against the Hawks was terrible and I'm sure he has played some shockers this year as well.

This probably one of the more gutless decisions that the club has made.
Synbad is right about marketing.
We should be pumping up the kids and getting there faces on every Carlton promotional scheme that we can.
Who wants to see a bung knee, 34 year old Kouta promoting the club anymore?
I don't.
I want to see guys like Brendan Fevola, Andrew Walker, Marc Murphy, Josh Kennedy, Eddie Bettes, Brad Fisher etc etc as the face of Carlton.

I'm absolutely filthy with this decision.

PJ yet his game against the Dons was great.

Who says they won't be pushing the kids from a marketing POV? People are not going to look at Kouta and think - ah the future of the club rests in the hands of a 34yr with dodgy knees.

He is not the future and unless the club has shown you the blueprint for next year's marketing plans PJ, you may find that you are wrong on the subject.

Nobody really knows what he has been paid except from what they have read and heard.

I just hope he proves a few people wrong with the time he has left in the game.

Depending on how DP uses him next year in terms of game time, instead of every minute of every game, then we will get good value out of him.

As against absorbing the information through one's morning muesli?

Of course people have heard.

Football clubs leak like sieves and ours more than most.

Denigrate club greats??? It's the club we follow not the bloody club greats.

These are guys who put their bodies on the line for the club, that love the club (despite what some may think) and i see no difference in our support to the carlton boys than to that of a richmond supporter at times...

Kouta along with Braddles and other greats of our club who have copped abuse by some of you for no good reason..

Braddles copped it because he wanted to play an extra year and because he had a different training regimen to other players... And this is a guy who was able to play on until 38, still reaching great heights and 16 years of service to our club...

I could go on and on...

Of course we support the team, but shouldnt we support the players who have been a vital cog in our team, especially at a time when were desperate for experience out on the park... If Kouta is such a bad role model do you think Denis Pagan would have been as glowing in his appraisals of Kouta as he has been...

Kouta has just played the 1 bad game against the hawks... I admit he wasnt great... But in previous weeks he has been more than handy out on the park..

And you're telling me just because im a fan of Kouta and im pleased he's playing on, i have a simplistic view of footy...

Thats bullshit!..

doesn't work that way No1. These guys get paid, some very handsomely to be putting those bodies on the line.... if we don't want to love them, we don't have to... they're not doing us a favour

okay a few thoughts.

To those who worry without Kouta we'll get slaughtered - we are on the bottom.

To those who say, one more year...In my head I've been saying that re Kouta since 2002. He is not the player he was. I accept we are shite and wish to rebuild players/image/everything. He is the past.

The main this though is the board and coach. Why do they want Kouta?

As a player? Why? He is too slow. Does not man up (he cannot run fast enough). Cannot play forward or back and for mine (and this is not his fault) does not offer leadership.

Yes he wants to play on - good on him but the club and coach should just have said - no mate.
