If Phillips was coming out of contract he'd be getting delisted and plenty of clubs would be circling with a two-year contract.
I hope we don't get him, but recognise that the only way we're acquiring him is as filler in a Plowman/Sumner/Tomlinson trade, similar to Lamb. Personally think we'd be better off picking a state league player either in the ND or rookie draft, or trying to acquire Nuyon in the second round.
Phillips is marginally better than Wood at best.
Comments like these just bring back memories to the days when Sauce was considered a dinosaur ruck man, way too slow for the modern game. Wasn't popular amongst fans in his stint at Carlton as a rookie.
Comments like this make me think you believe all red heads are the same.
Sauce had about 15 kilos on Phillips at the same age (Phillips is 24) and I honestly still think Jacobs is still a liability because he's the only regular lone ruckman in the league that doesn't directly improve his team's chances. Sandilands, Goldstein and Mumford dominate, while he helps Adelaide eek out a few extra premiership points on the aggregate due to an extra midfielder; he's not in the same class as them.
Could not give two shits about AA status, where are Adelaide despite his dominance? Mid-table, same as they have been for some time.
Could we have used Sauce during the year? Sure.
Would we have used him the way Adelaide used him? After about round 9, no.
For the record, Phillips is more athletic than Sauce, I just don't think he's a consistently good ruckman due to his lack of endurance. He tires easily, when he should be showing genuine improvement at 24. Sounds more like Warnock, doesn't it?
No, Warnock just never put in on the field. Not sure if it was mental or attitudinal. He actually is fit testing high in beep tests. He just does not get to contests. In al the games I have watched him I did not see him in front of a pack taking a contested mark. Just watching the highlights of Phillips, you see him take marks in front of packs. His lumbering style reminds me of Jacobs not Warnock and at the age of 24 still has plenty of time to reach his peak.
Downgrading Jacob's achievements as a ruckman reflects poorly on your judgement.
