Could French be in even though he's not an emergency?

This is good news for the future. I hope young Blackers can get in there and blitz them. :-D
Regardless of the result on Sunday, I'm happy for Luke Blackwell. I still hope we win though.

gee its nice to see the kid get a gig. Josh Kennedy seemed very sure at the pie night that young blackers was in. When i asked Luke himself he just shrugged but Josh piped up with some of young Luke's stats and said he's been great.

Great vibe between the lads.

OH and on development.

Franklin seems to be struggling this year - over played by Clarkson? Who has said he felt he got it wrong last year - but let's not listen to him, like Oagan what would he know about development.

Connoly made the point when being interviewed about Medhearst (?)

Connoly said he dropped him recently because Medhearst had played afl straight away as a kid and so had not had his weknesses faults taken out of his game because at AFL level kids are too busy just surviving, geeting a kick etc. to work in their game. He said that's what the VFL (or over ther equivalent) is for - to help the kids work on their weaknesses. But lets not listen to him, what would he know about development.

Danniher played that new tall of theirs all year in the VFL last year - wanted to get him to improve on a few things and to strenghten the body a bit - development through the VFL rather than the AFL - but lets not listen to him.

Could it just be that Denis is developing the kids by playing them in the VFL and wortking on aspects of their game and then bringing them on.

Obviosuly Marc has little to work on, just time and experience, so he's in.

Kennedy probably the same, and the fact we are desperate for a tall marking forward.

And Walks was played because the club needed a beacon lit, and has had to develop himself while playing AFL - hence (I think) the backline and tagger gigs. And now we are seeing the fruits of that development.

There was a nice little piece in the West Australian yesterday about Blackers' first game. Sorry there's no link. The gist of it was quotes from little Blackers along the lines of what was in the Hun but also Wayne saying how he thinks the AFL needs to really protect and nurture the father/son rule because it is such an important part of the social fabric of football, that the supporters really have a connection with the sons of past players lining up in the same colours.

He also said he hoped Luke's debut was better than his, when he came on late in the last quarter in a game against the Roos when we were 120-odd points up and he ran around like a headless chook trying to get enough kicks to keep his place (he didn't).

Also said that his son was a far more skilful player than he ever was, and his "wrong" side is about 4 times better than his was.

There was also a picture of Luke in his Carlton gear, and one of Wayne in his Claremont gear and there were very distinct similarities.

Modest man is Wayne.. he was a VERY GOOD FOOTBALLER!!!.. one of my favourites...

And i dont think too many guys in that era were good on their wrong side... (Its not even the wrong side these days.. its the non preferred)

Blackers junior can hold his head high.In the same tradition
