Are you serious? We'll be flat out trying to arrest the slide in members let alone ask for an extra $10. IMHO we'll struggle to hit 25,000 members next year given this disastrous year. It's the fifth year of crap that members have endured and I'm afraid many are less tolerant than you and I.

I am serious. The numbers I threw up are hypotheticals. I don't expect everyone will participate, just pointing out how easy it could be. I guess those that can afford $1.92 per week will have to make the decision about how much they have got out of the club in the past and how seriously they take our financial plight.

Even if membership drops to 25,000 and only 10% of those can afford to pay $1.92 a week that still adds up to $249,600 raised for the club.

This is a slightly unrelated story but thought it is partially relevant.

My local Cellerbrations liquor store is run by a Carlton Supporter. About a month ago he put a piggy bank on his counter with a sign "money for Carlton" the piggy bank quickly filled up and he sent the money into Carlton. Some people were putting $10 in at a time. It actually got to the point whereby you couldn't fit anymore money in it.

It probably only raised a couple of hundred bucks but I thought it was indicative of the volume of Carlton supporters throughout Australia who would be willing to give up a few $$$

King William St??? great shop!!!

that's the one - arguably the greatest liquor store of all time !

I reckon we have $2000 in pledges in 24 hours, just from our small cross section of fans.

Once again, this would be better off being collected by the club. It is hard enough just being responsible for money for player sponsorships. With something like this, it could become a fairly big amount eventually. It would have to be something watertight to gain the confidence of contributors.

Time to talk to some banks to explore the options I think.

I think ODN it has to be run by the Club, or at least under an official Club banner or personality. I wouldn't give my money to something without this link, and I'm sure others feel the same way. There's been enough arguments over fund raising on the Carlton Fan Sites to teach us that.

In an organisation with few staff and a shaky Board situation (from afar) you need a high ranking champion to support this and push it through. Someone with access to the Board. As per my last post I can forward something on but your email is not in a format to talk to senior people at the Club. Can you re-structure it as a 1-page proposal?

That's pretty much what I have been advocating molsey. I really don't want to be involved in collecting money, it's an emotive issue when smaller amounts are in play, with something like this we could be talking a substantial fortune. However, if the club did not want to do the work, did not want to support the idea because they think the members would be insulted they were asking for more money, then I would still want to pay in to it regardless of who was running it.

Depends what they want molsey. Do they want the groundwork all done for them and inserted into the proposal? i.e Direct debit costs, how to market it etc etc? Or do you just want the idea put forward in a more formal way? I can do that.

The latter.

If they like the idea then there is some groundwork that they can surely do for themselves.

I am a new talking carlton member and for years i have been in the dark about people on these site's trying to restore our once proud club... Also i have only been a carlton member since 2003 because of the disapointment of seeing my club struggling on and off the field. It was an easy decision that i needed to sign up for a membership. This year i bought two because i thought it was the only way i could contribute more. If i was thinking this then imagine how many of the 28k members are thinking the same!!!!

Count me in for $250 anytime !!!!!!!
