The tax charges which Fraser faced were relatively minor.

They related to an inquiry from the ATO re payments from Carlton which the ATO believed he had left out of his tax returns.

Fraser did not sing to Demitrou re alleged cash payments from Carlton so why would he do so to the ATO.

He faced charges under Section 8C & 8N of Tax Admin Act 1953.

Maximum penalty per charge for an offence under Section 8N of the Tax Admin Act is $3,000 - it relates to recklessly making a false or misleading statement to a tax officer.

Maximum penalty under Section 8C is $2,000 per charge - he faced 2 charges - failure to produce documents & failure to provide information to ATO.

Maximum penalty that he faced was $7,000.

Fraser was fined $2,000.

If this is the criminal record being referred to by others - it is pretty minor stuff.

regards
Ockham

Tax dodging is a national sport so Im not sure theres a problem here.

Unless he killed the ATO officer.

That would be a problem.

I'm not even sure that would be a problem Ath.

What jury would convict him?

Wouldn't mind them having a close look at "The Spews" tax returns given that to most Greeks 'minimizing' tax isn't a national sport its a way of life. :P

It's the team thing, and he exercised his right to decline to assist the authorities with their inquiries. It's hard to imagine a less likely whistleblower.

The point Demetriou has missed is that there are dozens of people still in football who have cheated the salary cap or benefited from exploitation of the cap.

Dozens of them. Some of them in high places, too.

The culture has changed, but the changes occurred largely as a result of what happened at Carlton during Brown's time.

We move on. Brown should not be cast as an undesirable simply because he didn't help in an investigation.

Gesh even Sheehan sees the light on this one 1.5 million to the CFC hardly compares to the money provided to sydney and brissy to keep them running. Indeed its less money than they have thrown into the scrays and north.

AFL has more dirt on the blues than the cap cheating has to run deeper than just Browns refusal to talk.

Bottom line is they should butt out and it is personal against the CFC by those morons.

George Im with you. Thought the article was great. Have to hand it to Sheehan he is someone in the media who is a reasonably straight shooter.

BRILLIANT ARTICLE BY MIKE! .........................&$*%ING BRILLIANT!

The media is quite pathetic at being critical at Demetriou, for whatever reason, i dunno! But Mike went all out today. It's about time!

How dare he. Has the nerve to 'Claim' that the AFL had no involvement in the 'Pagan' decision, yet he comes out and threatens the club if Brown was to join? Yeah right Andrew............no involvement at all!

It's about time somebody gave the finger to the AFL on our behalf...................i just never would have thought it would have been Mike Bloody Sheenen to be the one to do it!

I am speechless.

Well not quite .... other than to say that Mike must have found a new highly respected leak in the AFL organisation because he aint going to get nuttin from "The Spew" in future.

If it was Fatprick Smith writing this article you would need to put me in a straight jacket.

I wonder if he has Solid Evidence of this.....................cause if he did..........i'd be willing to pay good money for it. We could really screw the AFL with it.

Its common knowledge Ryan.
The AFL choose to blatantly ignore what suits them. Collo was as immersed in it as anyone yet he was a whisker away from becoming the AFL chief.

Its personal between Brown and DEmetriou, nothing more.
I was one of the defenders of the AFL when Wayne Jackson was in charge. I'd defend them against having personal vendettas and foolishly believed they'd always act fairly and even handedly.

Well, has'nt this dog Demetriou blown that out of the water? :?
