Like Blackwell, I think the Silvagni boys will need to bulk up a bit for they'll be considered for selction.

If the genes of Mrs. Silvagni have anything to do with it the boys will certainly be filling and bulking out in the upper torso region. :P

Greatest fullback ever - only got 1 bath from memory (Modra kicked 13 on him 1 day) out of over 300 games.

Was a more than handy forward - Took a diving mark in the forward line against WCE onr day in the mid 90s that won us the game.

Dependable, reliable, solid - made teammates walk taller.

Could have been a top notch soccer goalie as well as shorw during his IR appearances

Reckon he'd still go alright now  - Does anyone know how close was he to making a comeback in 2003 (heard the only reason he didn't was that Western Bulldogs would have taken him first in the PSD. ).

I'm glad he didn't come back, glad he retired at the absolute top of his game, same with Andy McKay. There was nothing to prove, other than to help the club out.

Last thing I wanted to see was a bunch of hack forwards kicking bags on him. Was bad enough watching Scott Cummings kick 8

Lockett towelled him up a couple of times also.

Absolute gentleman on and off the field. In an era of great Carlton players, sticks, Williams, Bradley, doull etec etc , Silvagni was the equal of any. Fiercely competetive, absolute team ethic and fearless to boot.
Deano is right, he couldnt lift his R shoulder above his head in the 95 final series. That will remain as one of the greatest efforts in a Carlton jumper.
I was fortunate enought o go to SOSs testimonial and I have to say it was clearly the best footy function I've been to. The achievements of the man are extraordinary. David Young, the Carlton surgeon and family friend put a diagram up of SOS with all his injuries listed. Its amazing the guy can still walk. I had the immense pleasure of talking to serge for 20min on the night and he was one proud dad.
I bought one of the prints of his mark over Starcevich. Number 4 of 300. I should have had no 2 but I was deciding whether or not to buy the framed version when someone else sneaked in ahead of me

I doubt we wil ever see a player of SOSs ilk at the club. The fact that he grew up there was a big factor in his character.

Godamn! Reading all these memories of SOS makes me want to grab a footy and go outside for a kick. He had that effect on kids. When I was at school playing footy I used to pretend I was SOS, and I always seemed to play better. Or if I was having a kick with my brothers in the backyard, all I'd have to do is pretend I was SOS and I' d go soaring over their shoulders for a speckie.

Grow up boys. Imagine three Silvagnis playing in the one team...has much more allure than three Clokes.

Maybe a couple of times early on in SOS's career (eg. 10 goals 8 behinds at Moorabbin one day in 88 I think). But I think SOS more than evened up the score against Plugger - some memorable games where Plugger was not only goal less but kick less as well.

Was 89 that day, and Walls still would have given SOS a vote. Said if we didn't ahev SOS playing on Lockett he may have kicked 16.

No shame in being towelled up by Lockett, he certainly wasn't alone on that one.

Even if the 3 boys are shit let's just draft them and sit them on the bench 100 times. That way, if they have sons, we won't die wondering

Let's not do a Collingwood and draft them just for the sake of drafting them.

If they are good enough to play top line footy, then they will be drafted.

What a true champion and a champion bloke as well.

Congratulations to you Stephen, you so deserve this honour.

Tommi you're so right it's times like these we need every little bit of encouragement and it does make us think about what we once had.

True champion - I remember how upset he was to not get selected for the 86 GF - They Selected Warren Mackenzie instead. He played in the Magoos that day and had a blinder in what I think was Rod Ashmans last game. I often wonder wether this set back was the driving factor behind his fantastic career

A lot of us have oooh'd and aaaah'd about some of Teague's suicidal marking last year. SOS did this consistently throughout his career. Running back with the flight of the ball to mark or get in a spoil, and the number of times he would dive recklessly onto an opponent's boot to smother.... Absolutely fearless... he never hesitated in going for the ball and never put his own safety first...classic example was when Milburn cleaned him up.

Everytime SOS went out there, you were left in no doubt that he was playing for the jumper. I think my estimations of him went up even more because of that... He was the epitome of playing for the love of the Navy Blue (same reason why Peter Dean is one of my favorite players). Damn! Did he set an example to teammates or what? I hope some of that gets passed onto SOS' kids!

Bullshit.
Draft them now before the AFL makes 400 games the criteria for F-S nomination

If you are serious in your post, I've got to ask why?

At the moment the non selection of Cameron Hunter seems to have worked for us. Hasn't done much at Melbourne.

As I said before, draft them if they are good enough, not by their last name.

After SOS was named FB in the team of the Century, whenever he played forward we'd yell "Full-forward of the Century"...

Great player - my hero as I grew up with the Blues, and my mum telling me how he was better than his dad, just...
