I've been to every Carlton Grand Final since 1972.

The 72 Grand Final was one long continuous cheering fest - we kicked 28 goals, actually got boring towards the end.

81 was pretty loud when we kicked the last 2 goals in the 3rd quarter to get us to within 9 points at 3/4 time.

82 have to agree with GodisNavyBlue.

87 the last quarter was one long stick it up your arse, this is for 1986 you bastards - wasnt loud but very very vitriolic. :smoking:

95 - see 1972.

But for me the loudest crowd was at the final siren of 1979 Grand Final - the release of 7 years of frustration and the tension of the last quarter with only a kick in it - the roar was unbelievable and only 1999 Preliminary Final comes close.

The roar at the G when we scored against Iran in 97 was the loudest I have heard at the G.

For Carlton games, definitely the loudest I have heard was the the final siren in '99.

For those who were there, I'd love to hear what you thought of the sound at half time. I have very vivid memories of the boys walking to the race in front of the members' section (old Olympic stand I believe) and the crowd was going beserk. It was a legitimate mosh pit, with the loudest ''Carlton'' chant I can remember hearing. An unbelievable din. To this day I think it almost had an impact on the boys starting off the third - it was louder than almost any sound I have heard at the END of a game. It probably rattled them a little.

Another game that was incredibly loud was the St Kilda game in 09, which we lost late when Dawson kicked a goal floating down from the backline. That game we had a couple of big runs of goals, and a couple of times I almost thought the roof was going to lift off. If you watch the game again, Commetti and Mcavaney mentioned the crowd numerous times, although the effects mike they had did little justice. I remember mentioning to Mrs Punter a few times how loud it was.

I recall the Saints game Punter, when Simmo made an unbelievable evade and dash off HB the crowd went ape. Another loud moment.

Agree with the OP....Fev's mark against the Hawks. Had the radio on loud so I could hear the commentary but that just got blocked out when he marked that.

And Grigg's sealer against the Pies in 08 when Fev shepherded for him.

Bradley's goal on the run against Richmond, final qtr 1995 at the G. Put a great game beyond doubt.

Recall the crowd (& Ian Robertson doing the ch7 commentary) going nuts when Silvagni kicked a long drifting goal to the Lygon St end against the Cats in 1990, when we came back from 41 points down at half time.

Great thread BTW

I think that was the game when Judd had his nose busted and went off the ground?? Well the game he did, I remember we thought we lost him for the game and then about 10 - 15 minutes later on the big screen there was vision of him walking up the race about to enter the game and the roar was absolutely massive. Not the loudest I have heard but it was huge.

Also when Fev went down in a game at Etihad a few years back against Nth l think it was and it looked a reco' and was carried off the ground just before half time I think it was. But early in the third quarter the next thing you see Fev sprinting along the boundary line from the players race to the bench and the crowd went berserk over that.

I've had the misfortune of watching most Carlton games on the box.

But to anyone who was there... it looked like the crowd was going to rip the Heatley Stand down in 1992 when we came back from a four goal half time deficit against St Kilda. The Rhino was on fire that day.

Thoughts from anyone who was present?

I was at the 99 prelim. I have been to hundreds if not thousands of games and that game is the one i will always remember. I remember at half time being stunned that we were still in the game, expecting to get well beaten. I know the players got a huge ovation at half time but the noise at the end was deafening. Up until the siren went i never thought we would win. Someone in the crowd near me said that there was just over a minute to go when Essendon* scored that point. The last minute went for an eternity.
The game against Hawthorn when Fev marked as loud too. If only. :banghead: :banghead:

My Dad remarked Braddles goal against the Eagles at Princes Park in '94, the checkside from 50 out right on the arc, was a big roar.

When Judd came up the race in that St. Kilda game the Carlton support went berserk. Hampson kicked a nice goal, too, which lifted the roof.

Yep, great call Jimmae. That play of Simpsons was a huge spark - typical Simmo, brave running, creative, no fear.

That was one game where I think the crowd and team were definitely feeding off each other. It doesn't happen every week. That night, however, the Carlton crowd was completely locked in and every time we even LOOKED like doing something, the noise was unbelievable. Totally drowned out the Saints supporters. It was the one game since Princes Park days where I felt like being at a home game against a Melbourne team.

Yes Bomba, that was the Judd nose game. And you are spot on, the noise when he ran back on was unbelievable.

I remember that game well...
Plugger was absolutely ripping us a new one in the first half, but then Parko shifted Dora onto him in the 2nd half and he completley dominated the big man for the rest of the day.
Rhino kicked 3 or 4 goals in the 3rd term to bring us back from the brink, and Sticks kicked a fantastic running banana from the boundary in the last to keep our noses in front.
Then on the final siren, Plugger (he would ve been totally frustrated at being dominated all 2nd half fby Doratich) lashed out at Matthew Hogg and flattened the poor guy...

That was my very first game of footy! I was 9 or 10 and went with the old man. It was a bit scary actually!

Seanpb , I was at that game in 1994 when Braddles kicked the goal against the Eagles and yes it was one of the loudest roars I' ve ever heard.

What made it a special moment was Braddles ran along the boundary line at full bore, bouncing the ball and in the process outrunning an Eagles player (was it Matera?) with the crowd going wild as he went.

Then he let go with the banana kick from the flank and an Eagles defender made a desperate lunge to touch the ball on the line. The whole crowd went silent with everyone holding their breath waiting for the goal umpire's decision.

When he raised both fingers ........well you can imagine the reaction of the crowd.

Was Braddles a running machine or what, what a freak of nature he was!!!

And when you talk about an under-rated player, Braddles has to be near the top of the list - what about his durability

I have very fond memories of playing the Saints in '92...

The great win at PP when the Rhino kicked a bag, and then at Waverley later in the year when we turned on a classic "premiership quarter" in the 3rd after a poor first half. Awesome. :smoking:

And in '94, my recollection is that we were on fire in Rd 20 & 21 - comfortably beating WCE (eventual premiers) & Rich (by over 100 points), with Braddles kicking freak goals from the boundary in both games, before falling in screaming heap....We lost to a struggling Essendon* in Rd 22 and then went out in straight sets in the finals against an in-form but middle-of-the-road Melbourne and an injury-depleted Geelong (with Braddles on the sidelines). After the pain of the '93 GF, it was very hard to take at the time...

Little did I dream that 12 months later I would be celebrating our most successful season of all time...

I'm sure I've mentioned this numerous times, but that 3rd quarter onslaught led to one of the funniest moments I've seen at the footy. I was sitting at the main scoredboard end, behind the goals, the pie boy walked down the isle and let rip with a "Hot PIES, Co..." when he was interrupted by a Blues fan screaming out "Nah, no Hot Pies mate, only HOT BLUE BOYS".

Pretty simple, but a whole bay of Carlton supporters errupted in laughter.
