Malthouse is coaching better than Pagan at the mo. Not afraid to drop names, firing up kids with belief and giving them good paddock time - see rusling.
Denis is stuck with the one plan of long kicking and then flooding zones in defence and trying to execute it with little commitment and heart from anyone.
I'd welcome him dropping a few name players, saddling up a few kids for some ground time and playing man on man. Hell we could try flooding toward our attack as a strategy rather than handing off and standing still waiting for the guy with the ball to do something with it.

We havent been kicking it long very often this season. How do you think Fev kicks his goals? He doesnt get them from the ball being kicked long to him; but from short passes on his chest. Thats why our forward line is one of our bigger deficiencies along with the midfield; we can only kick goals when its chipped in - you need to also kick goals when its kicked in long

I reckon we will win a premiership before your lot do.

Oh man, never saw that coming from you.

You wernt expecting me to say yes Collingwood are marvelous were you???
Youre just an average team with a below average list and you wont win a flag.

were crap!
One thing about being crap is you get to improve your list...

Hmmm, Walls said on the couch tonight that C'wood has a very talented list and will be great next year with Rocca and Fraser back in...

I love the way the media guys change their oppinion of teams and coaches weekly depending on the latest results....

I think Walls is trying to make up for giving Collingwood a rocket prior to our Round 2 clash earlier in the year, if lets them think they are OK, then maybe they will continue in their struggle for mediocrity.

Collingwood should not be our example at all.
Trade for Caracella and Morrison. Both 27 and 1 looks gone already. Woewodin another dud.

3 Clokes and 3 Shaws under father/son. 2 look like players and the other 4?
Still relying on there older few like Clement, Wakelin, Presti, Burns and co.
Mick had an opportunity this year to do some trading and blood the youth but chose Caracella and Morrison to eat up there salary cap.
Dennis and Mick seem alike in many ways with there trading for recycled guys (Mick, Cummings, Williams and so on).
I really hope Dennis will change his ways this year and next.

If we wanted to look for an example then Geelong are the ones for me.

Bartel, Kelly, Johnson, Playfair, Enright, Corey etc. None are really high draft picks. Bartel was pick 8 I think. They keep on drafting and they slowly improved. When they deviated to get a pleyer from another club it did not work. Spinks, Mitchell White and now Ottens is not looking like value.
Good leadership from there real captain in Cameron Ling and a good hard tough football side.

Collingwood should be our example.... Off-field maybe but definitely never On-field.

WE NEED MIDFIELDERS.
After 3 years of recruiting, we are back to square one, that is what makes me angry. Now we are "playing dead" to fix our drafting/trading problems.

They are doing one thing right that we aren't doing.

And that is playing their kids.

They've played Rusling, Cloke, Egan, Yakka, Fanning etc etc
The only kids we have played so far this year is Betts and to a lesser extent AB.
Need to play Russell, Hartlett, Setanta etc etc

List structure and drafting is totally irrelevant. :?

Collingwood are playing with passion, heart and belief.
They work hard for each other and give 100% at every contest.
They chase, block and harrass.

Is anyone foolish enough to think we are matching their intensity?

Walls is right about their talls..if we had Rocca, Fraser and Richards out we would looking to that for excuses. You add Travis Cloke and to a lesser extent his bro Cameron and they are not a bad unit of talls..add Tarrant and its not a bad forward structure with Didak and Caracella
Malthouse got a bit desperate when he and Eddie were under the pump and went for the kids like PJ said...Rusling, Egan etc have probably given a shot of enthusiasm to the team but you wonder if they can sustain that and will Rusling, Rowe, Yakka , Swan etc kick on and get better..I dont think so. I think they look better than they are because were are terrible...but there one advantage over us like I said is probably a better group of taller players....

Just a few things - three years of drafting? No 1 year.

Playing their kids - would that be Rusling and Egan and Fanning? All the others would be into their second or third years (at least).

We have played this year Setanta (1 game, I wish it had been more time on the ground and more than 1 game) Betts and Bryan. Hartlett was probably next cab off the rank but he has been injured. Russell is the other but by all accounts its been the last 3 games where he has shown something - and he is near getting a game. Raso was never going to play this year.

We are also playing Walker Waite T-Bird Carrots each week.

Livo is still young in game time.

Davies, AB, Sporn & Wiggo have all had games.

How many kids do we have to play?

I want Russell to get a few before years out and I would love to see Hartlett get a couple. If they do that would mean this year we have played
7 new players.

Not bad surely.

We had full access to the draft last year and went for long term players who need some more physical development. The second year plus youngsters (Walker, Simpson and co) are getting games.
Russell will play later in the season. Hartlett might with Fisher as they get fitter after there injuries.
We are hamstrung with what we can do.
Play the hacks to see if any are worth keeping or can up there trade value (if any) or play every 18 year we have got?
Setanta is the only guy I would love to see playing. Physically ready just needs games to learn. They cant do anything about him until ADL is put on the LT injured list.

Why would we want to be a middle aged/ageing team dependent on a slow midfield and 3 squibs up forward?
Despite the exciting form of their young players, they will be a average side when they lose all their senior KPPs and onballers at the one time.Collingwood are still crying out for classy, quick onballers and finishing mid-table isn't the way you recruit gun onballers. You do that by snapping up Nick Stevens when the dogs overlook him!
I'm more confident Carlton will get back up there by picking 2-3 guns a year, by having access to the best picks for the next 2-3 drafts.
