Obsviously my 'theory' cannot be enacted because of outstanding contracts. And yes in the wash up I would Dennis antoher year.

While there has been a lot of discussion on the player list, and deservedly so. My main concern has been the lack of 'effort' by the players as a whole. And for the answer to that lies within the football dept as a whole. If players can be delisted, traded, crititised for lack of form than the same standard must be applied elsewhere as well.

Synbad, I think the administration is about to get an almighty kick given todays papers.

Voss is years away from being available.
Im sure when he completes his duties as a 5 times premiership captain at Brissy he would love to come to Carlton.
In the meantime we have a coach who is working hard to turn the ship around .Before he can do that Ryan... people like Kouta must give him a hand....
He has no help from the leadership group even though he has supported them.(Giving them leadership titles).
The output of these blokes has been a disgrace. In fact for Campo to be asking for huge bucks again instead of mentoring is a stain on the vice captaincy.
Theyre both in the twilight of their careers so they should be reasonable.
We will be looking at bolstering up the midfield again.

BB..having a untried coach would probably affect supporters and sponsors...signing DP did give supporters new hope and they repaid the club by signing on in record numbers.
I agree signing a untried coach would put us in the basket case club area of teams who swap coaches every couple of years and thats not what we want . I think the tragics need to be patient and give him the extra year to be able to stop the nose dive on the field and get the mechanics of the new team started...all as I ask for is a bit of improvement next year..not finals etc but just steady improvement and good recruiting that lays some foundation for the future....what I dont want to see is kids going backwards in development or stagnating...when that starts happening then you have to question the coach..

re: Voss...probably will coach but I see him doing a Worsfold...bit of experience somewhere else as an assistant and then back to the comfort zone in Brisbane..we would really have to be showing something and be on the up big time to land him I reckon..worth trying but I think its going to be while before he starts thinking about coaching Full Time.
I dont see much else on the horizon either..its all well and good to start sacking people but we need good replacements...good coaches are not easy to find ans thats why Pagan has to be given some opportunity to turn it around....

No Synbad, I believed at the time that it was a good decision, although I believed it may have been a little hasty. However my view has changed somewhat in the meantime. Note my post was about what I do, contracts not withstanding. I realise that what I propose is not feasible and highly unlikly to happen. I do hope the Dennis is able to turn around the on field 'effort' next season, because if he doesn't then the knives will be well and truely out by this time next year.

Believe if I felt that the players were trying thier absolute hardest on the field I would not be writing what I wrote. But they are not, and the reason is more than just 'they are hacks.'

And by the way I do not believe the administration is above crititism, if I believe its performance is below par I will state as much. Until this point I have supported the administration in every decision it has made, but I must admit I have some concerns around the tax debt issue and would like a full explanation as to why it has occurred.

Given my posts, it might surprise some but I wouldnt actually sack Pagan this year - would give him next year as a minimum but would expect a lot more scrutiny to be placed on match day performance and team spirit/endeavour.

Provided contracts/financials dont prevent it - these are the following changes that I would enact

1. Coaching - entire assistant coaching panel to be made more accountable. Elshaugh and Libba to be axed. Michell to be kept on by his role as bullants coach but seperated from assistant coach (so focus is to purely develop kids in bullants as opposed to having an overlapping senior role) - Possible assistants (3) to be brought in would be Dean, Harvey (assuming he retires), chris grant (assuming retirement), Hinkley (currently at geelong), Micale (currently at WC), and Brittain (yes, I know its not going to happen) - no doubt others have various names in mind (I agree with the earlier poster that voss,buckley are likely to play on next year).

2. Recruitment staff - no change. Havent been there for sufficient time to assess their performance but of the draftees this season there have been no notable failures (I dont include mature age recruits such as longmuir/chambers as under the jurisdiction of recruitment staff)

3. Football department - Kernahan to have a more defined and active role - perhaps a complete removal from selection role (replaced by someone else) and placed in a new role for leadership development - mainly targetting YOUNG players (specifically 23 and under, setanta the exception) who may not quite fit the leadership group yet but display some qualities - Fisher, Waite, Walker, Thornton, Livingston, Blackwell, Russell, setanta (ie the spine and 1-2 midfielders)

4. Playing list - No wholesale changes to senior players THIS year (assuming contracts resolved).
Johnson, bentick, Bowyer, davies - 2-3 players axed from this group
clarke, bannister, mcgrath, sporn, chambers, Wiggins - 4 players axed from this group
Morrell, De Luca, Prendergast, Norman - 2-3 players axed from this group

In effect 8-10 list changes (I would go axe 9 - johnson, bowyer, clarke, bannister, mcgrath, chambers, Morrell, Deluca, Norman).

Setanta to be promoted to the senior list,
Smith, Aisake,and one of becker/bateson retained

Leaves 8 spots to senior list (7 draft/trade and 1 PSD) and 3 rookie list spots

5. Board level - 2-3 changes. No names in particular to go but primarily a board restructure so that there is a clearer path to succession from the collins regime given his health concerns and to develop a more proactive board that works to put the club in a positive light (primarily in the media and for supporters) as opposed to being largely faceless.

If Voss and Buckley were to play on next year, why not suggest to Carey that he become a full time assistant?

That is assuming Foxtel contracts are a yearly thing.

Carey is doing very well at foxtel and probably is now their best special comments man. I expect him to get a big contract with 7 or 9 (Whoever has the rights).

because I dont like the fact that carey/Pagan might be too closely associated (one of the reasons why I would want Elshaugh to go) - I want each assistant to bring their own set of new ideas. For that reason, I didnt include Archer on the list who I would target as an assistant before carey.

I'd also be interested in looking for a coach from left field (ie outside of football circles) - as examples successful coaches from other team sports such as basketball, netball, hockey, etc. I think we could learn a lot from the ideas that they bring across. Dont have many names in particular but one that does appeal is Brian Goordijan (or however u spell it) - success at several clubs and over an extended period of time, still young and an extremely astute coach and motivator.

Glen Lazarus.

Would improve our tackling 10 fold.
