Seriously if we have to have these interstate games to kick off the season, why the @#$%&! can’t we at least just call it round one like a normal person. Which bright spark decided to start numbering at 0? It’s so @#$%&! confusing and unnecessary.

Round 1 = 1st round
Round 2 = 2nd round
And so on

They need to sort it out for supercoach too, not exactly a new thing anymore yet several clubs are still getting their first fixture thrown in the bin and thus devaluing their players

The Supercoach points still count for the player and their value will change after they've played two games (i.e. Rounds 0 and 1).

However, teams are not locked in until Round 1 starts and so there's no points allocated to teams from Round 0 and obviously there are no leagues running until Round 1.

Exactly. It's crap because some players have two byes so are worth less than those with only one. Anyway, apologies for the nerd tangent.

it stated as a conceit to get around the opening round Richmond v Blues tradition. soo hey called it round zero to be smart arses and not have all the teams play.

beyond that it’s about trying to grow the game in NSW and QLD, though i would have though lions are doing more. than anything AFL can do with opening rounds to promote the game in QLD.

i agree, get even if Rich v Carl moves to round 2 for sake of “promoting the game” just call it round one FFS.

I think OR will end once the NRL’s Vegas foray ends.

I think, you're thinking the AFL thinks.

The don't. Its all guesswork, cover ups, and band aids from teh AFL. Has been since the Ronnie Biggs, I mean Ronnie Evans days.

But you are correct dotting the lines... the AFL follows the NRL for ideas, good and bad. The AFL just give then different names.

Please enlighten me Bondi as I don't follow the NRL. What ideas?

You don't follow a lot of things Doc, but you know more than me. Let me guesstimate...

Gather round
Tribunal Penalties defined and set for consistency. Early pleas
Harsher head high penalties/ concussion protocols

Ground Zero is AFL's reaction to NRL playing early game in the US, and AFL filling the void of no games in the rugby states, or that's what the AFL says. The NRL continue to play games in rugby states during round zero....remind me, Collingwood and StKilda's home is Melbourne, not rugby states? Interesting.

We are still scratching our heads with send off/ red card rule in Finals, and Playing teams twice, for the sake of fairness.

That's from the top of my head. I think AFL introduced Interchange before NRL, but AFL looks for good ideas. No harm in that. Have to ask why? My take is that they are fat cats sitting on their arses taking credit for a game that continues to grow in line with rusted on footy fans breeding patterns.

This will be a practice Game for the Swans. They will thump us by 10 Goals and Curnow will kick 10 himself! :donk: :donk:

The Deksen story is huge. He's playing against Geelong tomorrow night. I expect him to cement his spot for round 1 such is his drive.

Watched the videos of the "announcement, Derksen is a Blue", his story interview, and that of his young son being picked up from primary school with the news from his mum, his dad has signed with Carlton. Priceless stuff.

How about the humble abode they call home? He's the real deal. A battler. A fighter. Determined. Focussed. Confident. Able.

This guy, all 197cm of him is the bonafide swingman we have been desperate for years. He's tall, athletic, a good mark and a great kick. A great kick. Can play KPF and KPD.
He's a better mark and better kick for goal than O'Keefe and Kemp imo. He's better than Stephen Durdin was too. He's more durable than the 3 aforementioned.

No doubt, Weitering will play and push out one of Young Dean or Derksen for the Swans game. I think it will be Dean who is dropped.

Then, by round 3, we will also have Haynes pushing for his spot in the team. That's when it gets interesting. I can't predict what will happpen. Young and Derksen may continue to gel well with Weiters in the team. First in, best dressed. We have depth again.

The great thing about Derksen is if we have an injury to a Tall forward, he's plug and play ready for that too.

Love the flexibility of this list. I'm looking forward to seeing Charlie go to the backline for the Swans to try and hold off our juggernaut.

Sydney are a good team. Well drilled and hit targets. I feel the nourishment and enrichment the new guys Hayward Ainsworth Florent Derksen Byrne and Chesser , including Smith, Hollands, Kemp, Newman, walsh and McKay who werent right for 2025, makes up a different team than the one we have been rinsing and repeating with between 2022 and 2025.

This will not be a walk over for either team. I spoke to a Swans player yesterday, and he said they were pumped with Charlie ahead of them as a target, but know the ex Swans boys Hewett Hayward Florent and Newman will not be playing to lose.

Sold out in one day for good reason. Should be a classic...and umps....please be fair to the visiting team.

I feel like Derksen will play the Silvagni CHB role from the beginning of last year very effectively. I reckon he will surprise a few just like Silvagni did. IMO, JSOS was great especially in that role but if his name wasnt Silvagni, I’m not sure he would have lasted on the list until he blossomed as he did. Similar to Derksen who didn’t survive but now has the chance to prove he has blossomed into a bona fide AFL player.

I also think that, while the Swans will start huge favourites, we will have good intel which could help minimise the devastating impact of their classy mids. Some might argue that the Swans will have our intel too but I don’t reckon Charlie was paying that much attention…

Is Harry Dean injured? or is he fit for Rd 1?

He must be an automatic inclusion. I rate him higher than Dereksen to take CHB position!

In all Seriousness, I am not fussed if we lost to Sydney as long as give it a crack. I just don't want to see a repeat effort of the Richmond Game last year. I still Can't get over it!
