Nothing much has changed since 2022

Same issues

Generally, under Voss the effort has been okay. Can’t recall too many smashings over the last five years. Plenty of honourable losses.

This doesn’t win you games

Same reliance on our big name players such as Cripps and Walsh

We have no real system apart from individual brilliance

Bottom 6 - 8 players are still poor

I think it was doc sherrin saying to go barrack for your local fll club or the like. Id recommend. I've been with a local club for 3 years now through my daughter and the senior men are at bottom of div 1 ladder underneath qafl. The ladies div 1 are grand finalists. Its actually quite enjoyable watching various grades even though they do have some lame rules like "stand". They just use a bit of common sense adjudicating and you don't notice the umpy prancing.

Con: Pussied out and only put $10 on it

Def thought our midfield mix looked better without Hewitt and Cripps in the same midfield.

We have no system around how to move the ball from kick in or out of defence. Need some new coaching.

We need to at least try some different transition beyond slowly kick long down the line

Really disappointed with HOK, was totally invisible except for appearing at a few stoppages to ruck. I didn't notice him once in the fwd line.

It felt like we did quite a few things well... but it also feels like the second year of Malthouse...

I might be misremembering, but we'd sacked Ratten because we were fragile defensively... Malthouse came in and did no better in his first year than Ratten did in his last, so then he went about reshaping the list to play his brand of 'sustainable finals footy'.

So we cleared out all the middle-tier players and went with a few stars and the kids supported by a bunch of real B-graders... And then we dropped right off. We'd work so @#$%&! hard every game to score, then fail to score, then get chopped up by the opposition as we tired.

That was over a decade ago, and it really feels like we're doing the same damn thing.

Last night confirmed to me that we can play the modern game with the current group and that Voss has wasted our time and opportunity. Keep evolving this year, play the guys in their best positions and please find the right coach.

HOK only played 32% of game time. Pitto played 69%. So basically they were never on the field at the same time

Have to admire the audacity of the likes of Walker, Rachele, Keays etc to continue to complain and self umpire late in the game whilst having just received one of the greatest one-sided rides in modern history.

In fairness the cows have had a bad run from the prancers. Its almost like 2024 where the shackles were released and got an ok result.

Simple really , Crows won because they had more contributors . They had fewer passengers than us .

I couldn't believe that one, think it was Q3 and Young(?) taking an intercept mark in D50, umpire shouts STAND! twice at Walker, but Walker just ignores him and runs at our guy who gets a rushed kick away before being bumped hard. Ump never called play on and seemingly decided it wasn't worth making a fuss over. Biggest self-umpiring job ever.

Also Keays disgust in the last, complaining for near on a minute to anyone that would listen that he wasn’t paid a mark…….from a Rachele handball!

Pros:

Expected them to drop their bundle, but they're still trying.
Outtackled the opposition.
Good footy early. Managed to score late.
Pittonet, McGovern, Cripps, Walsh, Florent, Ainsworth, Carroll, Williams.
Still need more, but improved effort from Cerra.
Derksen and O'Keeffe were encouraging.

Cons:

Once we lose midfield control, we can't rebound or move the ball out of our defence.
Defence is porous. Another rush of goals. Another high score to the opposition. I know we've played an extra game, but we've got the highest points against. Unless that changes we'll finish bottom 4.
I know it's partly our list, but it'd be nice to get some coaches who can problem solve and get us playing more effectively in light of how the game is now played.
Umpiring was diabolical.
I know Harry's competing, and he seems to operate under a different set of rules to all the other marking forwards, but he's allergic to taking a mark in forward 50.
Boyd needs to have the ball more. I don't know if that's him, or the players around him. But we're not getting sufficient value out of him.
Kemp was invisible.
Jagga was pretty quiet.
I'm glad we're getting games into Byrne, but I reckon Flynn Young deserves a go given his form at VFL level.

I reckon these are the key for us. We all know Voss is a good leader, but not a great tactician. We won't be ready to seriously compete again, until we can match opposition sides in these 2 areas.
