First time I've watched Carlton win live since leaving Melbourne in 92. We don't get many up here. Rapted.
Found myself watching Cowan a lot tonight. He is really growing into a star, such an assured performer in the air and on the ground, reads it so well... I felt most confident when the ball was in his zone. As the game went on, Haynes started to take over. No surprise there, we know he is all class. Both among our best.
Being at the game, you can see we lack a key forward, and not just when H goes into the ruck. There just isn't an aerial threat there, despite how good Kemp is for his size (up until the kicking bit, of course). Thankfully our small and medium forwards were superb tonight: Tank and Cotters stepping up at key moments, Byrne doing the Fog rule, Hayward eating those 50m/45 degree shots for breakfast, and Ainsworth... God I love this man.
Midfield also excellent... agreed with whoever said the other week that Walsh's quality is more apparent at the ground, he just gets to everything, but tonight he also had quality disposal that will show on the TV. Hewett fantastic, Crippa a warrior but I wish he weighted his kicks better (only time I remembered him doing so was on his left).
An enjoyable, easy going stadium to watch footy, much better experience than the last time I came here and watched GWS cream us by 70-odd. Went to a different spot each quarter, spending Q4 with the blue army willing the ball through the big sticks.
Spewin we missed you GE. Ive texted and PMed you.
You really couldn't have missed SB Sinners and I. We didnt sit in seats, just stood on the Concorse ... behind the red line
I am very loud. Great to see Wojee and his son. Made lotso new friends. Sydney based Blues, Melb based Blues.
I can't believe we won at this cute boutique ground. I actually really like it.
Sydney did mention how stupid it was to have the camera facing the empty stands.
13,000 attended. There were more Carlton fans. The song at the end of the game sounded like 20,000.
Got some great videos Ive shared whilst walking with strangers to the train singing the song, ditto at the station. Ditto on the train. I got them going.
Never had this type of experience in Sydney. Not even that wet night when Juddy got us over the line was more exuberant than tonight.
What a relief.
Amazing result when you think how well we played with Dean 18, Wilson 21, Cowan 21 Jagga 19, Ison 18 Byrne 18. Our future looks bright, especially when we have Walker 18, and 3 x 2nd rounders coming in .....and hope at least one of Riley or O'Keefe can step up. Riley was bloody good today in the VFL.
I thought Wade Derksen was slow and sluggish, but Fraser and his team mates just loved his game. They all sang Derkas game. Maybe I'm a harsh task master. Am I? He is slow tho. At the end of the day Team defense won out, without Weiters. We didn't let the umpires beat us.
I think Walshy will surprise a few with his votes in the BnF. He's had a really good year in a team that only played half a game. He's done his fair share of heavy lifting and carrying us when the rest were asleep. And I thought I was a hard task master.

Maybe he stood out because those around him stood up and we won.
Ison looked like his body needed a rest after watching the Effendopes game. Maybe he would have rested up with the bye. Had a couple good moments, and that's about it, but he needs a break imo.
We badly need a Key Forward. Haven't replaced Curnow, Silvagni and TDK. Cupboard is bare. Lewis Young and Derka haven't got what the MC require.
Pittonet surprised me. He had his best game for a long time. Did well against Briggs. Briggs won the battle. We need a better No 1 ruck. Riley is developing, and not sure about Skull. Lets see what the've got in the next 9 weeks.
Our brigade of mids and small players won it for us. Ran and stayed connected. Thank good Evans found his kicking boots. He's a natural footballer. Footy IQ is obvious. Special mention to our running machines Cottrell and Acres. Cerra on the wing again, all class.
Hewett and Walsh were my equal BOG.
