I was responding to 4th re: our differing opinions about leadership.
I agree that Kouta and Lance (to a lesser extent Campo, and excluding Lappo) have been our best players for the season. But I haven't seen much inspiring leadership from them.
What I thought you were implying was that you hadn't seen any positive response to the leadership that Kouta, Lance and Campo were displaying. While not admitting that they are the best leaders around there is a quiet minority of Carlton supporters that believe that they are doing quite well despite playing for a club with the worst list in the competition.
So what is leadership? This is too big a topic for this late in the night. However, I believe that one part of leadership is simply performance on the field. If Kouta, Lance and Campo are still our best players then to my mind they are showing leadership.
Sure leadership is also mentoring the younger players, commanding respect from their team-mates and opposition, doing all of the hard things on the field and showing the other players what needs to be done to make our side great. However, let's face it they can't do everything and it is time that some of our other players step up to take on leadership positions.
Why is Fevola not a leader after 7 years at the club? Perhaps he is temperamental. Why is Houla not a leader after 6 years at the club? Perhaps he is soft. Why isn't Prenda a regular in our side after 7 years at the club? Why isn't Livo, Sporn and Wiggo regulars in our side after 5 years at the club?
These six players have been at our club for long enough and all are disappointing. In fact Fev was the only one this year to be a top 10 player at number 10. This is poor, poor, poor!! And don't anyone blame Kouta, Lance and Campo for the performance of these six players. They are big enough and ugly enough to look after themselves.
Heaven help us if we lose Kouta, Lance, Campo and Lappin this year or next and are left with Fev, Houla, Prenda, Livo, Sporn and Wiggo as our leaders...
