Maybe time for Peter Dean to start giving a few lessons, he was always one to 'fly the flag'. Dont need to be overt about it, Deano was always great at the attempted spoil where he went to punch the ball but "accidentally" whacked the other guy's head from behind. No need to be nasty, just a little courtesy call to let them know there are limits to what the opposition can get away with!!

What we need is some players to come in , in numbers and stand up for their team mates.
Noone does it... we need to go out there and learn to hunt and play in packs.. where they all have each others interest in common.. and not to be meek.

Too often one of the kids gets manhandled and noone comes in to their defence..

Its all the little things that make a side great!!!
You have to do ALL the little things.. not some...

What would be the combined total of weeks missed by Williams and Rhys-Jones through suspension? And that was before 147 cameras captured your every move.

People cried blue murder when Camporeale copped 1 week last year.

What was the win/loss ratio of the club during the Williams/Rhys Jones period , how many finals did we win, how many Grand finals did we win?
I wouldnt have Williams or Rhys any other way...fair comment about Campol ast season.. but if Campo had gone into bat for Simpson v Milburn I would have praised the prized Essendon* recruit just as I would have praised any Carlton player for sticking up for their mate...

Thought provoking stuff again verbs...

Youre comparing flying the flag with the selfish bullshit games Campo used to get caught up in.........

I'm not sure you can correlate wins and losses with players willing to smash opponents in the mouth. Very little of that goes on these days, largely because almost everything gets captured by the cameras (although Camporeale somehow found a blind spot to hide in and smash Holland a few years back).

We will be even more of a rabble if we are to continually jump in when things like what happened to Simpson occur. And it will be exploited too.

Look being a great footballer does not mean you have to live your life on the field like Ghandhi...

If you dont want to touch anyone.. go join a weird cult and eat vegetables or something.....

And no, of course it doesnt mean you go out there and throw big punches.
It m,eans you let the opposition know youre not going to be trampled on....

You can do that on the scoreboard.. but at the moment thats abit hard.. or you can get a few of your mates together and remonstrate very strongly if one of your tyoung team mates.. or any team mate gets treated unfairly...

We will have to agree to disagree as I think its a fundamental requirement that you stick up for your mates and fly the flag...agree smashing players in the mouth or king hitting them behind play where we are the aggressors isnt on but when faced with that you are entitled to defend yourself and your teammates and for those players who dont have those talents I expect their teammates who do to look after them....

I think Brisbane are proof that you need a certain element of your players to be gifted not only at footy but also in the art of looking after themselves and their teammates.. the Scotts wont go down as the greatest players of all time but they were important for a variety of reasons and not least of which was their ability to look after the likes of Luke Power, Lappin and co and allow them to operate without the likes of Milburn and co interfering....dont you agree...

I think it all comes down to the fact I didn't think Simpson copped too bad a knock, it was part of the play, he didn't have to go off and continued to go about his business effectively.

Maybe we dont need to turn every incident into a melee, just a little friendly reminder sometime during the afternoon AKA the Greg Williams example, that some things are not going to be tolerated. The inference being that you can take a cheap shot at one of our kids if you isolate him out on a flank etc, but you cant hide for 4 quarters and if you want to muck about that is OK, but expect to be held accountable sometime during the afternoon.

Oh, and Elwood. Drop by CSC and edit your B&F votes. There needs to be a team rating included. :-D

Simmo is an example.. its a trait we have had for a few years.. and its important to address now that we have a young team.

Hamill for all his greed does this very well at StKilda....

He will never stand by and watch a kid or any member of his footyside get mauled.

I think it's to do with lack of confidence. Winning games gives you confidence. Being confident and showing presence are very similar when it comes to football. When we string a few wins together we'll "walk a bit taller".

exactly synbad !

it doesnt have to be a punch up - but some strong words and bit of chesting up would be nice to see from our boys - a bit of agro towards the oppostion - THEY ARE THE ENEMY - we are too nice !

Do all the basics and you will win some games....

Its a case of chicken and the egg.. but winning games does not just happen.. you must do all the important things that wins you games.

Synbads point about Hamill is well made..Stkilda smalls walk taller with Hamill on the park and i reckon its worth a few goals on the scoreboard..
A player like Milne knows he can attack the footy with confidence having Hamill as well as Hayes, Gehrig, Kosi etc backing him up.....must watch Milburn vs the likes of Brisbane and Stkilda etc and see if he employs similar tactics like he does when he play us......

The crazy man has a point. The problem is this usually results in a melee rather than a stand-off with colourful words exchanged.
