Not only did Walks beat him but earned a number of good, opportunity creating stats. We can talk about his rushed kicking at times which requires some thinking through it on his behalf, but how good was that handball in the pack in the second!

Just about every one of his kicks was a turnover. I think you need to watch the game again Molsey.

i'm happy with walkers progress.

i dont think we have to unleash him just yet, provided he is still progressing.

but i would minde seeing him off the leash in the next three practise games just to build some confidence and hopefully gain a little more composure so when he does win the ball as a tagger he can make his opponent pay.

Speakers watching it again doesn't help as apparently if I wasn't there I don't understand.

I was talking about his positioning, not execution. Walks had how many I50's from half back / midfield? He was holding his man, a known danger to us given our complete lack of strong mid sized players, yet managed 5 I50's to my memory from being at the right place, right time, plus moving at full pace. No doubt he rushed some of them, as did most of the team. For the number of possessions we got inside 50 or just outside of we should have done much, much better...

in particular the stretch from 10 mins in to half time where we kicked 1.11 and 2 OOBOF.... gave the game away.

And on this 'tagger' comment - there is a huge difference between a tagger and an accountable midfielder. Franchina is the former, Josh Carr the latter. Its about offensive or defensive options being placed on key playmakers.

Anyway thats enough posts for me for the week,

M

AW is fine - it's all in his head as far as I'm concerned. Needs the composure to slow himself up a little bit before disposal.

Did AW remind anyone of a previous Carlton superstar half back in that 3rd quarter especially? Andy McKay was that superstar and boy have we missed his drive from half back since his retirement.

AW might not have the kicking skills as yet, but playing him off half back I think will be his best position this year. Saturday night proved to me he is really developing the art of knowing when to rebound from his man, something he was fearfull of last year when tagging.

Andrew McKay was never what you could call "silky" skilled in the kicking department either, I reckon AW will have him covered in that department.

Might not be a bad idea. If he wants to play for Carlton he will have to buy a 'Ballistic Vest' with the way some of these supporters are always gunning for him.

I've said it once and I'll say it again...

Chris Judd should be shot for what he's done in his 4 years in the AFL.

He has set the benchmark extremely high and if a young bloke who is taken in the first round doesn't equal or surpass his efforts, then they are deemed a failure and should be sacked immediately. And it would seem at Carlton they get criticised even harder due to our impatient need for success.

I'm not ever jumping off Walker's bandwagon. It isn't his fault that he is being played out of position. Do you honestly think he, or anyone for that matter, would tell Denis to bugger off after being told you're going to tag Ablett or Aker or McLeod for the whole game? 1. It's not the done thing in football and 2. who's going to tell Denis to bugger off anyway?

I know AW will come good. Some footballers are late bloomers, others burst on to the scene straight away. Like our climb back up the ladder, AW is going to take time, but the opposition better look out when he does come into his own.

Glad DOA's got a sense of humour ( and is obviously in touch with reality) but I feel for Josh Kennedy's dad if he reads the Mitchell Clark thread in AFL news.

So either you never watched Andy Mckay runs the lines from half back or you missed the third quarter when Walker was doing the same? If you remember Andy McKays last game against Geelong you would know exactly what i mean as an example.

I recall a statistic on Andrew McKay - there was a period of over 2 or 3 seasons where McKay was never caught in possession/holding the ball, he really was an expert running the lines - I reckon AW will have him covered in that department also.

re: Chris Judd....kicking has fallen away especially on the run..the close attention he gets has also made him hurry a few kicks and shown he is human by making a few clangars last season..

I stil think that AW is not being played out of position...
It's an important learning curve, and the time to let him loose is not right now, but maybe next season some time......
