Great post.

Hey Madblue, was that at a pub in Thornbury/Northcote?

Spoke to my friend who watched the game there while at a wedding nearby and he relayed a very similar story. It was just as funny hearing someone else tell it.

P.S I am not condoning violence

Interesting picture in the Hun yesterday on the confidential pages of the EJ Whitten Poker Tournament.

Our Murphy is in the pic with Ang, Cranium, The Dominator and a few others.

The pic was taken before he flew to Perth, but in the pic Murphy is wearing shorts and what looks to be a knee brace on his right knee. You can't really see it in this picture as opposed to the picture that appeared in the paper

Have to wonder if that impeded his kicking on Saturday night.

OH NO! This plus the Duigan interview + Herald Sun =

Very late for this, it is all done and dusted but I have been away with no TV and only crackly radio and have just had a chance to look at the replay.

Reality is for all our effort and our bad luck with injuries etc, we lost a game that was there for us to win for the third straight year. We should be in a prelim and we are not.
Hard to blame anyone, although I am surprised Marcus Davies has got off so lightly. He played patiently with the Ants and then has been solid in the seniors, and then in a crucial final where he is doing a good job on Le Cras he makes the decision to concede a free in the goal square in a dead ball situation after an Eagles goal. In a 3 point game it is very hard to not take credit for your side's loss if you give the oppo a bonus goal without the ball going to the centre. And it's not a case of 'the kid made a mistake' - he didn't make a mistake, missing a goal is a mistake, fumbling is a mistake, no-one means to make mistakes. He meant to grab Darling's jumper and scrag him. It is unforgiveable and he will never get the chance to give that game back. Stupid, dumb, self indulgent and selfish. I hope it burns him at every training session and every minute of every game he plays.

Juddy looked cooked, not sure if it was the season or the battering he has taken in every game he has played, but if Juddy is our 6th best we win, when he is ordinary as he has been in the last 4, we usually lose. The recruitment of McLean while sound in theory - get a hard nut to help Judd, was disastrous. We desperately need a strong big bodied mid and we made a shocking wasteful choice. What did the Swans give for the other Josh Kennedy? Ellard is a good battler but that's all.

We have a an interesting coaching set up. Ratts couldn't possibly see the game clearly enough from the bench so Riley or Richardson presumably are calling the shots. Would have love to have seen some moves - Judd to full forward; Betts into the square for the bounce. Also the last forward contest was certainly not a free, and Ratts should have avoided comment at the presser. from his spot in the dugout 150 meres away, he would have had about the worst view at the ground. Next year's motto No Excuses. There are always reasons, some of which relate to luck with injury, but despite that we should have won. And if WCE had a p[layer who would idiotically give away a free after a goal instead of us we would have won.

The forward line has copped flack but the delivery was bomb it long and hope, how many times did we actually pass it.

When Setanta has to take the centre bounce ag Cox, who would you think might win the knockout? Perhaps the best knock ruckman of the last ten years, so how come we let Kerr run freely with no-one on defensive side and concede an easy goal.

I think Robbie Warnock is behind a fully fit Hammo and Big K, but gee he was good up against the best. Be hard for us to keep all three. Very few clubs have three rucks of that potential quality, each could be number one at another club, as Jacobs is at Adelaide. What we need is a scrubby battling Ben Hudson type to come in when we are two down.

Robbo is a beauty. His disposal is iffy but he is so hard at it.

Our defence has gone from achilles heel to great strength with Hendo Yarran, Tuohy, Duigan, Laidler added to Jammo.

After reading the posts I thought Setanta must have been shocking, but given the diabolical forward entries, the quality of his opponent Glass, the fact that he had to ruck ag the two best in the comp for 25% I thought he was okay. Took the most contested marks for either side, and in the last set up goal opps for Simmo, Ellard and himself, unfortunately only one was taken. And our other tall forward TBird was knocked rotten and Walks, despite three goals, had a dirty night. I thought if he didn't have to ruck, he was okay and provided a good contest with virtually no supply to his advantage.

Tuohy is going to be a beauty. Setanta still doesn't naturally understand the game, Tuohy does. He looks like he was born to it. He should have been a priority for a three years deal ahead of a few they have signed. Do we have a hold on him if we don't promote him and contract him? Let's do it.

Davies has been mentioned a million times. The free happened with one half to be played, so it's on par with our points and Hurn getting free to kick a goal from Judd's turnover that went to Gaff. Silly to single one player and incident out. It was almost a Monfries by Darling to suddenly go limp, throw his arms out and fall down in the square to draw a free after plays stopped.

http://www.gameanalyser.afl.com.au/?rou ... ality=high

Darling didn't fall over with Henderson, Joseph and Davies wrestling with him a second before that. Technically, it was there, but the penalty should be a free kick in the centre square, not a free kick from the goal square.

Nowhere near on a par. Incidents during play alter the match. If a side gets two goals before the ball goes back to the centre then that just changes the scoreboard. The ball goes back to the centre as it would have had there been one goal. It is the worst thing you can choose to do on the field. If anythimng it is worth more than a goal because of the demoralising effect. Not a mistake but a monumentally dumb, selfish and costly decision.

Footy Gods definitley did not help us.

Cox played half a game the week before, this week he plays a full game. Do not be surprised against the cats he fails to run the game out.

The goals they scored when Robbie was right on the line, may have been goals but if they were there was centremeters in it.

Kerr had to come back this week.

Josh Kennedy looked gone, almost subbed off, comes back on and plays well.

Our injured player leaves in an ambulance

Our long shot on goal supposingly touched on the line

Murphy slung after his handball should have been down field resulting on a shot at goal

No Gibbs, Kruze, Waite - they vertually had there best side

Gibbs getting injured with 2 minutes to go against the scum

Chamberlan had to umpire our game

With all the above against us we showed true grit that we should all be very proud off.

Wonder how the Eagles would've gone missing Nic Nat, Kennedy, Kerr, Darling after half time and have Glass at 75%. Essentially our problem missing Kreuzer, Waite, Gibbs, losing Thornton after half time and having Jammo at 75% after a long stint out.

All this talk about the Sat. arvo game is making me ill.
Like the woman in that old song...you know..at a wedding, and she stands up and shouts..'It should have been me!!!!'
The only good thing is that commentators almost universally have paid us respect, and said how easily it could have been us.

Still burns.
Go Cats!!

Been a tough, tough week.

The WCE wankfest is at full throttle.

Hearing numerous WCE players (Embley, Shuey, Kerr to name a few) come out publicly and say it was clearly their hardest and most intense game of the year just rubs salt into very deep, open wounds.

While I agree that we have gained a helluva lot of respect out of last Sat night and that the footy gods gave us nothing, it still doesn’t change the fact that it won’t be us playing the Cats tomorrow on the G.

That hurts…….bad.

Hope the Cats smash them.

Given their golden run I expect that the Geelong team bus will burst into flames OR a unusually virulent strain of gastro to go through the Cats overnight.

Geez the company picked a hell of a week to decide to send me to Perth.

Classic media here - I see what all you WA guys are talking about.

They actually had a brief interview with Ratten in the paper this morning, and
asked him what he thought about the Egirls chances. It was a classic "well,
I think we've talked enough about ourselves now ... how about you talk about
us".

I'm at a client site so have had to bite my tongue, (now very sore), but fair dinkum -
did we watch the same game? Apparently the Egirls made a lot of atypical errors
and had things run against them.

I did get asked about tomorrow, (coming from Geelong), and I told them I thought
Geelong would be 2-3 goals up at half time and then run away with in the second
half to win by > 10 goals.

Apparently I'm bitter and not seeing things clearly.

We'll see.
