I know it doesn't justify a 2 year deal alone, but white does some very good work with the younger boys (ie helped Cam Giles through his rehab for 2 years) and is very involved in charity work for the club.
With the state of the playing group culture at the moment, and having to trade guys for unders every year because the club is incapable of helping players through personal issues (who are able to resolve their issues with the help and support of their new clubs), you could do a lot worse than having White on the list for 2 years through a rebuild when there is a distinct lack of leadership in the playing group.

So Delist him from the Senior List and immediately give him a 'Simon Lloyd type' full-time job working with players that need help. There is no official limits to the size or salary cap for off-field support staff. If needs be create some kind of impressive sounding assistant coach title in the List Management department working for SOS. Give his spot on the playing list to somebody with the potential to play. White sounds like a champion bloke but he has shown enough to work out that he is never going to be a champion player. We will improve when we stop giving spots on the playing list to 'good blokes' on the basis of off-field criteria.

Must say I don't think White is as bad as some on here do. I'd take him over Henderson.

No, Henderson is vastly overrated, luckily for us. I can't remember a more overrated player of ours while I've been following Carlton.

White is versatile, has a bit of mongrel in him and shares his Christian name with one of Carlton's all time great players.

Christian name means first name, not surname. So it's Simon, like the great Simon Minton-Connell.

Simon White is a really good player he stood up when few did last year.. He can go forward his disposal was getting more assured and he will go in as hard as he can. He is one of our leaders by example.

Assuming 6 Cat A rookies, it's currently:

32/38 Senior list
3/6 Cat A rookie list
2/3 Cat B rookie list

But if we can go up to 40 on the senior list, though it comes at the expense of both a nominated rookie spot and a spot on the Cat A rookie list (so 39/5/3, 40/4/3).

Thanks Jimmae.

You can always trust Jim for this sort of stuff

This, Rodney. Think with the forwards available on our list SW may be directed to the forward line and FF could be calling his name. Or maybe Adam Tomlinson is out of contract in 2yrs, Whitey gets a 2yr contract to try and play the role they saw him playing?
He's a pretty good set shot for goal and also offers the versatility to move down back or even into the midfield.
Looks like we could be starting from the backline with the rebuild so there's an opportunity for Whitey to provide forward options while we hit the draft/trades (or have the pup forwards build up if we happen to grab a McKay like pick + SOSOS).

Simon White is the modern day Glenn Manton. Thrust into KP roles that he is undersized for he does well given he is usually battling bigger opponents, one can fall into the thinking that if only we had the bigger guys to release him to the third tall role he'd be much better suited, but the truth is he usually gets done for speed, athleticism and/or skill by a decent third tall. Like Manton he gives his all provides versatility, indeed more so than Manton as White can play through midfield to an extent.

Whitey is both hurt and helped by the rule changes for 2016. In some ways he was suited to the sub role in that White gives great flexibility to cover any injury, but typically the subs vest seemed to be given to someone able to give fresh legs and ideally pace for those occasions when it wasn't called upon to cover injury. On the other hand Simon's ability to rotate through midfield will be valuable as an option in the new world of reduced rotations.

At the end of the day he is worth his spot on the list in my view for his versatility, mature body, leadership, gameness and work ethic, he'll probably be in very few "Best 22" teams, but if fit he'll be in the mix for a game most weeks I reckon.

So I've got it right:

Rookies - Cat A (current): Gowers, Sheehan, Wood
Cat B (current): Korcheck, Byrne?

Yup; spot on.

If Byrne signed a 2 year deal.....I wonder if the 2nd year is him being upgraded to the senior list.

Happy to have white around of the field but he should b no were near our best 22. If he's playing it means a youngster like plowman isn't playing. White wouldn't get anywhere near a top 8 teams best 22 or even list for that matter so if we want to move for rebuilding we can't keep playing 27 year olds that aren't improving and are no good

White finished 9th in our B&F. That should be enough to get him into our best 22.

White is a hard worker but he is ordinary... at best. He shouldn't be in our 22.

Lucky he plays for Carlton.
