He either a: Lied on the footy show, b: Lied the following day or c: Had no idea what the f$%^ he was doing.

I don't think he would lie to the members so I'll go with c.

Synbad - got it 100% correct. The man is worth many many 100s of millions yet will not put his hand in his pocket for a cent. Knows zero about football. Is there purely for the profile it gives him in his circle of friends and business accociates.

We could do soooooooo much better than him.

The man has to answer to shareholders and board members when he dips into his pockets though, don't forget.

Smorgan Steel are a sponsor though.

Let's give him until the end of the year, he may not be doing anything earth-shaking or radical, but he's only done the one thing wrong thus far.

And Synbad, don't bother, I'm very familiar with what you're going to say. :)

While I certainly don't think Smorgan is a stellar performer I cannot see too many stars putting their hands up for the job

The man has very very very deep personal pockets that only need the authorisation of his wife

And there's the rub.

"Darling I'm going to throw the footy club a million."

"THEN I'M BUYING THOSE DIAMOND EARINGS YOU BASTARD."

Etc.

Josh I am not a Synbad croney and yet I cannot but be apprehensive about the running fo this club.

Everyone goes on about the draft picks, list improvement, development of kids blah blah blah - all well and good and neccessary

but for me the single most important thing needed for this club at this point is vibrancy

you get that through

selling the brand (in a positive, powerful way)

expressing new, innovative, clever, creative ideas

moving on from the past and into a new era

highlighting all that we are doing right

and so on.

This club would be the worst performed in those areas . The worst by a mile - @#$%&! Fremantle shit on us.

Just basic stuff like people on the TV

like radio shows and newspapers pushing our line of thought

some energy!

We have a young list - how about using some of the vibrancy that should bring.

But no.

We doodle while Rome burns

We are the Mullet of the football world

or worse

the moccasion

no, no we are those things that were out in the 70's - the treads of the football world!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

There was this superman episode when I was a boy. Superman, Lois and Jimmy go to an island and all through the episode there is this voice crying out 'save me , I'm drowning....'

In the end the voice has nothing to do with the mystery - it was a @#$%&! parrot.

Josh, sorry, but in my eyes, Smorgon is that parrot!

Further to DannyBoy's post - this is the second year in a row where we will be heading into trade/draft period where we are in the media for the wrong reason.

I don't care who said what - can we just get our act into gear so rather than denigrating the club we are presenting a united force and actually SELL the place. Who knows, we might be able to attract people to our club - you know maybe some supporters, members, sponsors, or god forbid, opposition players via a PSD.

Unfortunately I think I can feel another three ring circus coming.

Another review......what's the big deal we've had plenty over the last few years. Most clubs undertake one - Pagan should be no different. Given his placings (equine parlance, Pagan loves horses) 15, 11, 16 and 15or16 why get shorty?

It's all about f***** egos. Smorgon has one and Pagan has an even bigger one. Who suffers? The Club.

Ego is a Dirty word!!

No this was neither stated not implied. This is your own spin.
Sounded as clear as the glass on your window sill. Was clearly mentioned a few times by the journos asking the question, and Smorgon did not deny it, just spun the line that the board were going to do that anyway. What does that say? Maybe it was my own spin but I would be 90% convinced at least.

I can't believe the Smorgan bashing going on here, you would think he put us in this situation, ah, but all hail King Collo, wasn't he the saviour. Smorgan has a tough job that nobody wanted, he won't get any personal gain from this and really is on a hiding to nothing. Credit to him re the Pagan issue & I guess for having to put up with the humiliating job of going to the AFL etc while still retaining our independance (unlike dogs, roos & demons).

I agree that he is not a long term prospect, but until that prospect comes along we will have to grin and bear it.

I've known Graham since i was about 2 and i can ASSURE you all that he IS in fact a football person. I grew up going to games at princess park with the smorgon family, and we rarely missed a game. Graham is definetly a passionate carlton man who holds the clubs best interests at heart. That explains why he wanted the job in the first place.

In terms of Smorgon's knowledge of footy I think Shagfan's opinion may be based on some fact. I'm not convinced that Smorgon took on the job to impress the owner of the NY Jets! We are an ailing club in a provincial city at the ends of the earth playing a game no-one in the rest of the world has heard of, that is not even the dominant sport in the countries biggest city. It would have made more sense if he got hold of a basketball team if that is his motivation. I haven't been greatly impressed by him , but I agree with Headplant re his interview on LO. He was okay, and he has taken over a basket case at the bottom of the ladder. I'm willing to give him some time to show what he can do. Also I think he was on the Social Club board and blew the whistle on Elliott's fiscal lunacy when there due to labyrithine financials that went round and round and ended nowhere. Not sure he was on the Social Club board because of the high profile it would give him with the king pins of American industry.

I'll give credit where its due - well done Graham on the contribution - I am sure all Carlton people appreciate every cent. My feeling is that there has been an enormous amount of pressure which been brought to bear to make it happen. And six figured is great, but even Footscray have been getting 7 figure sums into their foundation.
