It's only for the assistant's job ... but with a view for the main gig later.

KH is on the money again.
Tonight on SENs backpage segment, they mentioned that both Carlton and St.Kilda are seeking out Voss to coach them next year.

And Denis thought his job was safe!

Apart from Marc Murphy and the #1 pick in this years draft...this would be the best thing to happen to this football club in the last 10 years.

Heard Voss on SEN this morning saying that, if he chooses to hang up the boots he will be interested in an assistant coaching job, not a senior job. He actually said that if he was offered a senior coaching job he would decline the offer. He said that he would like to coach somewhere other than Brisbane to get another perspective etc. Lastly he also admitted that he might either play on next year or he was also thinking about having a year off and doing media work.

Basically he hasnt made up his mind yet and could do anything!!

I think we should move heaven and earth to get Voss on our Coaching Panel.

This is very similar to back in 1964 when Carlton was at its then most historically low ebb.

A new board led by the CLub Dentist George Harris went out and got Ron Barassi who was Captain of the then greatest Club in the VFL - had played in 6 flags captained about 4 of them and was the annointed successor of Norm Smith.

The similarities are striking to today's situation (we just need a new board  ).

Voss should be a priority - and I think the romance of the situation for Voss coming to the club he so passionately supported as a child and being responsible for its resurrection would also be something that would weigh in our favour.

Agree....he should be a priority ..once he is down here we can work on him for the future...dont want to see him at Stkilda, they might actually get somewhere with a new coach and Voss onboard...

I've always thought Thornton should be in this team; but not as a KPP.

In other years with much better playing lists; I don't think he would've made the team IMO.

Then again; with perhaps tuition from someone like SOS....he may blossom.

Carlton's 1995 Backline:

B: M.Sexton, S.Silvagni, A.Christou.

HB: M.Hogg, P.Dean, A.McKay.
..........no room for a Thornton there.

or indeed in the losing '93 GF side:

B: Ratten, Silvagni, McKay.

HB: Christou, Sexton, Hanna...
...

or the '99 GF side"

B: Sexton, Koutifides, Christou.

HB: Bradley, Silvagni, Rice.

Look....I'm not rubbishing the guy....he's been knocked about by injury etc.....but; I don't think he's developed into the player we hoped he'd be.

I think Bluehotel's comment was because it was a bit from left-field to suddenly post about Thornton in this thread.

There are other places on these boards for that.
