Simpson and Fisher in particular who in the long run might be as valuable players for their club as any First and Second Rounders from 2002.

And in the circumstances Norman was worth a shot and very nearly made it.

Yep, in that time we've added:

Bentick
Bannister
Blackwell
Carrazzo
Fisher
Hartlett
O'hAilpin
Raso
Russell
Scotland
Simpson
Stevens
Thornton
Waite
Walker
Wiggins

Not all will go on to be premiership players for sure. However I probably think better of our efforts between 2000 and 2004 now than I did before I actually looked into it.

Jury still out on Wayne as well I am sorry. His first draft (2004) at Carlton is looking pretty ordinary at the moment. Not one of the players selected has come close to cementing a spot in the bottom of the ladder team. For those guys it will be make or break this year.

Can we not turn this one into a recruiting analysis/

the boardroom stuff is more interesting and something we can occasionally have a say in.

Love your work, Synbad.

Cheers for the info.

Well, hopefully for all of us, something positive comes out of tonight's board meeting.

The wheels are definitely in motion.

Yeh they household names one has played 13 games and looks great,i remember Livingston looked great with 17 games one year,we wont know about his recruitments for at least another 3 years at least. The 2 years have showed some Potential,Murphy,Kennedy and Gibbs, you would think,it's to early to say anything yet.

Done well with recruiting... Are you kidding!

Picks traded during this period (player selected with that pick in bold):

2001 National Draft
Picks 14 & 30 (& Mark Porter) : traded for Corey McKernan (gone) and picks 23 & 39 (Ashley Watson & Rod Crowe)
Pick 23 : traded for Justin Murphy - gone (Charlie Gardiner)

2002 National Draft
Pick 16 : traded for Barnaby French (gone) & pick 31 (Stephen Gilham)

2003 National Draft
Pick 51 : Traded for Brett Johnson and Daniel Harford - both gone (Matthew Ball)

2004 National Draft
Pick 57 : traded for Callum Chambers - gone (Bradley P. Smith)
Pick 67 : traded for Troy Longmuir - gone (Tony Stribling)

Players picked the pick after ours:

2000 National Draft
Pick 4 : Luke Livingston - gone (Andrew McDougall)
Pick 11 : Trent Sporn - gone (Shaun Burgoyne)
Pick 31 : Blake Campbell - gone (Sam Hunt)
Pick 46 : Sean O'Keeffe - gone (Jordan Bannister)
Pick 61 : Callan Beasy - gone (Daniel Breese)

2001 National Draft
Pick 39 : Justin Davies - gone (Henry Playfair) Ablett Jr was a father son
Pick 75 : Sam Cranage - gone (Jared Poulton)

2002 National Draft
Pick 60 : Cameron Croad - gone (Daniel Sipthorp)
Pick 79 : Karl Norman - gone (Aaron Lord) PSD
Pick 84 : Mick Martyn - gone (Nathan Saunders) PSD

2003 National Draft
Pick 57 : Ricky Mott - gone (Ben Hudson)
Pick 63 : Glen Bowyer - gone (Shane Morrison)
Pick 72 : Adrian Deluca - gone (Shane Tuck)
Pick 75 : Stephen Kenna - gone (Andrew Raines)

2004 National Draft
Pick 73 : Chris Bryan - gone (Daniel Pratt)

There are some very notable misses. Sporn over Burgoyne, Deluca/Kenna instead of Tuck/Raines. But if you're trying to make out we've blown a bunch of sure thing picks over that 5 year period you're kidding yourself. 3 of those 22 picks we've either traded or wasted have turned out to be decent players.

We've had our own success stories in there too don't forget. So while I would have preferred we'd have traded and recycled less, I just don't think the situation is as bad as some try to make it out to be. We're paying the price now for our recruiting between 1994 and 1999. If we've really completely blown it between 2000 and 2004 then we won't be going anywhere at all for the next 4 or 5 years.

His Correct, only Walker,Thornton,Simpson,Waite and Fisher plus Stevens and Scotland have been succesful while Bentick looks like making it.
The Jury is still out on all the 2004 National Draft picks and i'm still not convinced on Wiggins,Bannister,Carazzo and even Betts, who plays ok one week and quiet the next.

A True look at that list,Waite and Fisher are good but a big concern with Injuries.Hartlett and Raso have not played a game and one or two will be delisted next season if they dont progress or have injuries.Jordan Russell has to pull his finger out next year after all his complains.

Jordan Bannister and Simon Wiggins are more or less in and out of the side,so they dont look to good in the next couple of years, they seem like they used for now untill the list is better and the kids have had a couple of seasons.

In that list only Simpson,Thornton are real deal and Stevens and Scotland while Bentick looks to have cemented a spot every week and Ohailipin is getting better while Carrazoo still needs to be proven another year and Blackwell has had one year so far in a wooden spoon side.

Smorgon on SEN.

Unity Ticket to contest the Election is all current board members minus Diggins.

Believes he has never spoken to Tom Elliot before.

Remark about "we don't want to see the likes of that coming back again.." was an off the wall comment.

Believes new board members will bring in money/resources to assist club.

Bagged Caro for having no clue at what she writes.

Has heard of no new ticket and believes Fraser Brown might support his ticket. Wouldn't answer if Fraser Brown would invest money into the club while Smorgon was president.

In summary, Smorgon has kicked off his election campaign announcing his Unity Ticket. now for the big wigs to come out and announce the competition.

IMO it is clever politics from Smorgon.

I'm only guessing but from reading between the lines the opposition ticket does not have the numbers to challenge for a full spill. They were hoping to get a couple of new members in March and ally with a section of the current board to install a new president.

Smorgon has realised this and after earlier making coaching changes to appease the Brown group he has now installed one or two Brown people on the board to further shore up support from this group, and the extra numbers make the plans of the shadowy third group more difficult.

Only speculation, but if I am far off the mark those in the know should be able to set me straight. 8)

I think you might be right. Smorgon declared he wanted a board of 6 only months ago. I can't think of anything other than politics that would cause him to change his mind so drastically and appoint 12 members.

A 6 member board would have meant 4 positions up for grabs. A new ticket would only need to stand 3 candidates. Assuming they could get the support of Lee, 4 would give them control of the board and the presidency.

Now they need 6 candidates. Finding 6 people willing to stand for the board may be more difficult.

I wish Smorgon would devote more time to taking the club forwards and less to playing politics. But I think he knows he's under pressure to maintain control of the club and I guess it's a natural reaction to concentrate on that. But while he plays politics, I have this awful feeling the club we love is slowly disappearing. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think it matters how many are on the board. 9 are up for election (Including Smorgon), replace 6 of those and the numbers are on the new ticket side . Sticks will jump over and Diggins is already against Smorgon and Lee, Moultan and Harrison have the support of the new ticket according to the papers.
