Yaaay!!
The news I've been wanting to hear
Can't believe how some posters here swallow the line from the Match Committee and the Club regarding such issues as Santy's promotion. Yeh, sure they were going to give him the rest of the year in the seconds
And I'm not blaming the Blues for putting out this disinformation. It's the way the game is and should be played. Keep the opposition off balance, even if that means the members are misled as well. A perfect way to unleash the big mad Irishman. Adds a new dimension to flying under the radar.
Maybe my joy is premature - there is no certainty he will play on Saturday. But I'd love to have a bet on it happening.
The thing is that few debutants have immediate impact. Few make an impact in their first year out of TAC as their bodies aren't mature enough. Blokes like Simmo find this a problem for a few years. That is the one thing we don't have to worry about with Santy. There is only a little room for improvement in his body.
There is much more room for improvement in his skills, of course. But a lot of debutants have more potential than skills that are ready for display at AFL level. The leap from TAC and VFL is so great that most of them can't handle the tempo. Just look at Walker. He had a great game against WC last year, but in many games since he has been plagued by poor disposals and decision-making. And he is justifiably seen as a star in the making.
So the insistence of many that Santy be held back as he is still learning the game is a bit inconsistent with the preparedness of most to see young recruits get a game before they are nearing maturity.
