If he wants to go to uni, we need to pull some strings and get him a placement.

Sorry BV, we tried that one before with Andy McKay.. He ended up going to Brisbane to do his Vet studies...

We couldn't pull anything at the moment let along any strings.. :D

Only if you definitely want the kid to end up at Brisbane.

Ah, but now all Uni's have plenty of places for full-fee students, we can pretty much get him in anywhere he likes.

And if the Walker boys and Brett Johnson win 'Screamers' on 'The Footy Show', we could offer him that $280k student accomodation.

well if he does syn-baby, then i recommend for him a repertoire consisting mainly of status quo and ACDC stuff ... for a bass player it guarantees maximum financial return (and other 'benefits' ) for minimal effort!!

All's not lost. Just shows how desperate Brisbane is to get him. And why not. He'd be a F$#%$%$^%$ bargain under the father-son and they're so close they can almost touch it (him ...)

Staying in Melbourne's gunna carry a whole lot of weight, you'd reckon.

Well if Marc wants to relocate to Brissie I reckon we move the club up to the Gold coast for him - he's worth it apparently! 8)

18 year olds think they will play footy forever.
We need to offer Murphy a lifestyle that appeals.
If he wants to go to uni, we need to pull some strings and get him a placement.
If he wants a job, we should organise now what he wants.
These are the things that we can control to improve our position.

And this is where we have the advantage over Brisbane.

How so? In case you haven't noticed, during the winter in Brisbane they have this thing called the sun, not to mention all the other sun, surf, sand and girls type of lifestyle things that Queensland could offer.

But it appears that this Ellis bloke has miracuously improved since last week, so I'm not sure why we're worried anymore???

;)

If we dont get Murphy were doomed!!!!!.........

(What dannyboy said).... :P

But seriously... its better for the long term interests of the club to get Murphy than not get Murphy.
We can draft other players but we will miss out on a future leader of the Carlton Football Club.

yeah but Ellis is the second cousin to the third sister of that lampost a certain father rested against before his dalliance with a red-haired lass whose sister's cousin works for a man once the bootstudder at West Coast! He's gawn!

I think the main problem that we have is convincing young Marc that coming to a club that is really down and out at the moment is worth it.

We should start thinking of reasons why he shouldn't play for Brisbane. If the kid wants to play footy and finals then it would be hard to imagine that just staying in Melbourne is enough.

The forum here make it sound that he would be the saviour of the club if he came. That is a lot of pressure for a young kid, no matter how talented.

Champion players dont shirk pressure.
Brisbane wont be a power forever.
In fact the chances are when Murphy goes to Brissy he will have missed the golden years.
Its all cyclical.
PS .. why go to Brisbane when you can stay home with your family and friends???? :?

Young footballers want to play in premierships, its what they dream of doing.

If the draft was around in the 80's and you were a f/s pick for Carlton but the Saints had the first pick, what would you do ???

Carlton at the moment just doesn't seem like a prospect. Don't cane me for this one, but as much as I love the club, its a mess and will be for at least 3 more years. If I were young Marc I would think the Boo-boos are still a better bet than the Blues.

We're right at our lowest point, both on field and off, so now is indeed the time for Brisbane to strike. If the club can somehow sell us as a more attractive option than Brisbane, I'll be absolutely shocked. I'd say he's almost certain to move north.

Unfortunately, when you weigh things up, I would think there's a lot more to be excited about up there, both in the short and long term. Apart from the home factor, I think they can offer him everything we possibly could, but without the current air of uncertainty and pending upheaval. Sure, they're going to go through a period of rebuilding of sorts, too, but it's hard to see them plumbing to anything like our current depths.

It breaks my heart, and this is perhaps a short-sighted view, things can change quickly of course, but if forced to make a choice any time soon, I think it would be perfectly understandable to give us a wide berth at this point. It's going to be a hard sell.

If i were Murphy there is no way id steer clear of Carlton.
There are exciting things happening on the horizon and im sure the club will be pointing all that out....
Were a shit club but were working towards being a great club again.
When the Liuons start losing their Ackers Voss Lappins etc... theyre just going to fall in a heap in a rugby dominated town.

Surely if you want to be looking at opportunities for your future youd be looking at staying in Melbourne!!!!

Whats wrong with you people????

Exactly, look at Leigh Colbert, he left Geelong and wanted to go to a team to win premierships and left to go to the Kangas at the end of 1999... Missed the boat hey...

Were going about this the wrong way.
When in trouble and your backs to the wall, start unfounded rumours. Create the seed doubt.
Has anyone yet informed Marc of the initiation process that the Lions have for first year players?
Mrs. Murphy would not be pleased.
Regards Pedro.
