Don't mind you either synbad and your library of analogys.

The Pagan thing gets me though, he is going to retire in 3 years surely and I believe we still won't be in the finals.

We probably wont be in the finals... but we will have made the corrections.. we just dont have the infrustructure on and off the field and till we do we will struggle... simple as that.

It will take time..

Fair enough but I don't envy the recruiters job at the moment. They can't muck up these draft picks especially if we get picks for Lance and Lappin.

Yeah they can.. but we cant freeze because were scared....

Im sure we can force some trades with picks.. cos we can get them for nothing if they dont deal..

see??

We have the whip hand....!!!
And a full deck to deal with this time.. all we need is some space in the cap and some creativity and you just never know if we cant get a leg up here....

Maybe time we co-operated with the Filth and Scum. With 3 of the top 4 picks in the PSD collectively there is a lot of pressure on clubs to deal. Individually there is only one player Carlton can pick up for free but if the 3 all make noises then other clubs will have to come to the party

I like that idea, combined we could shake more trees than our club could do on our own.

Haven't read all of this thread, but does anyone have any idea on which clubs have shown interest in Lappin?

I've been on the "see ya later Lance and Campo but I hope we can keep Matty" bandwagon but with that one comment he's lost me.

There's been a @#$%&! queue down there of greedy little flowers with their hands out for too long and it's time players earnt what the club is willing to pay them. If they don't like it they can all piss off.

Sorry Matty - @#$%&! off and take your leech manager with you.

You've earnt well over a million bucks from this club and now you want more. Think about that next time you're at a hospital at 3am and there's a nurse who's devoted thirty years of his/her life for that sort of cash. Do you think they're going to be able to stick their hand out for a final three year handshake at the end of their career? Not @#$%&! likely you greedy little @#$%&!.

A "career" in football was never about "setting yourself up for life". That was a myth perpetuated by other greedy little flowers like our club captain. You play football because you love it and if you've got half a brain you'll spend your time when you've finished playing doing something else you love regardless of the remuneration.

Your turn...

Geez I miss Bruce Doull...

Yep that's the mentallity that's almost ruined the half the clubs and the competition over the last 20 years. That's the mentallity that forces clubs to "beg" for more & more money each year from their fans to "survive".
The football fan has been conned by the players who feel it is their right to retire in their early 30's. It's bullshit.

Keep your grubby hands off my dessert....

No second tier they complain...

But we cant afford a second tier we explain.....

Your mates forced you out Lappin... not the club....

Very ordinary article in the Hun today with Lappin complaining that he was never that well paid and so the club should be more loyal to him.

"Lappin and manager Ron Joseph want a three-year deal and are refusing to budge."
How can the club reward loyalty when there is no negotiation with an almost 30 year old who had a sh1t season and now wants a 3 year deal.

I'm sorry, I love the guy in navy blue but you cannot reward loyalty when are wooden spooners.

I know if I underperform in my job I'll be out on my arse the next time contracts are up for renewal and the fact I've been contracted for 6 years already doesn't entitle me to a charity contract because I've been "loyal".

I hope he stays, up until this season he has probably been our most consistent players over the 7 years he has been here.

He has to assess his options and make a decision. If he decides to leave, well so be it and good luck to him. The Club MUST stand firm on some player management principles. 2 years is enough, and if he is still going well at the end of 2 years he will probably get another.

But it is NOT his "turn", and it is disappointing to see that comment. It demonstrates for all to see that there is indeed a "culture" which needs to be removed. The fact that others were overpaid does not mean he must be as well.

You are almost 30, you don't get a 3 year contract. Simple. Loyal or not

I guess Lappin's point is that he took a cut when we were desperate, he has never been in the top 6 pay-wise despite just coming off an All-Australian year and he could have gotten more money 3 years ago by going across to the Tigers but he stuck with us.

It wouldnt inspire anybody to trust the club during any future negotiations would it. The old story, trust no-one. If I was Lappin I'd be spewing that I didnt go to the Tigers and cash in 3 years ago. We all forget that this is job to those guys.

Ask yourselves how you would all feel if you were offered big $$$ to swap to your employer's competitor. Your employer used the emotional heart strings on you and you agreed to spurn the offer and keep working for less. During the 3 years that follow you are recognised in your profession in the best 22 in the country at the biggest awards there are. It comes time to put pen to paper again and your employer gives you an unltimatum! Take less or piss off!! How would you all feel?

End of the day, singing the club song and wearing the club tie wont pay your mortgage or put your kids through school!

Agree with every word.

I love ya Matty, but we need to move forward, whether you're a part of that or not is entirely up to you.

On modern-day footballers salaries (even those not in the top 6 at their club!) I don't think too many footballers would be struggling to pay their mortgage or put their kids through school!

It'd feel a bit like the last time contracts were renewed for a few of the guys I work with. It's the real world.
Besides, isn't it the duration, not the amount that is the sticking point?
