I rang the club today (1300 798182) to get voting rego forms sent out.
I asked if I was registered to vote: 'no'.
It took about 15 seconds to get it sorted rego forms mailed.

DO IT NOW! CHECK YOUR VOTING STATUS

Just rang that number now - there was a message saying the number is temporarily out of service.
The club probably can’t even afford to pay the phone bills

Still no go - getting the same message.
I tried from a office phone and mobile - is that the correct number?

I'm pretty sure - I was going from memory when I rang and it went straight through. Spoke to Claire.

That's the trouble with having so many premierships.

I just rang, and even though I registered as a voting member a year or 2 ago and have kept getting my membership each year they did not have me recorded as a voting member. :?

Asked to get the paperwork sent out.

If you want a say make sure you find out whether you are registered to vote or not within the next few days, the AGM is just a couple of weeks away.

Shit sorry Rhys - really stuffed that.

I wonder how I was capable of actually ringing the right number in the first place.

Thanks Donald boy.

This election could be a watershed for our Club....our votes could really determine the arrival of a future Club President on the board.

Ditto Jarusa....Seems the trouble was renewing this year over the phone. In previous years i automatically filled the voting preference section in.

Anyway, all fixed now ,and voting forms and proxies reportedly in the mail..

Greg Lee has my tick of approval after reading the letter tonight.

Interesting to read that the club will try to pass an amendment that in the case the club goes bust, all profits will be "distributed to a similar type of sporting organisation (rather than the members of the Club)"

Hmmm, so Carlton fold, relocate to the Gold Coast and any funds we has left over are used to start the new Metre Maid Blues. Wonder if this conspiracy theory will take off

Has anyone else read Note 21 in the Financial Statements?

It covers Directors attendances at Board and Sub Committee Meetings.

The meetings that could be attended are Board (11), Special Board (2), Finance (12), Marketing (12), Audit (4), Optus Oval redev. (2), Foundation (?)

There are 11 board members listed.

Turning to the 3 up for election...

1. Chris Pavlou - 9 board meetings out of 11, went to both special board meetings (these appear to be meetings with the AFL), and attended 5 out of the 12 marketing meetings.

Seems odd that you would go to less than half the marketing meetings for the year (maybe he didn't join that sub committee until later in the year).

2. Sticks - 8 out of 11, both board meetings with the AFL and that is all. I guess match committee duties keep him busy. As much as I love the guy, what is he adding to the board?

3. John Valmorbida - 8 out of 11, 1 out of 2 of the football meetings, and all 12 of the marketing meetings. I'm pretty sure he is in the BRW Rich 200.

Perhaps the next two ilustrate why the board will be decreased by 2.

4. Ken Hunter - 5 out of 11, 1 out of 2 football meetings, 4 marketing and 3 foundation meetings. Was seconded from the board to work on various projects including farewell game. Has since resigned.

If only he could be 25 years younger!!

5. Bruce Mathieson - 0 meetings out of 11. Given special leave by the board from attending general board meetings. Went to both football meetings.

Had a lot on his plate in his own business, but would have been instrumental in getting Dan Murphys on board I'm guessing.

What will / can he give this year?

What if he can't make any board meetings this year, what if all 3 of the candidates are worthy and we can't get them on because people won't vote against Sticks?

It would be interesting to know where he stands.

The Rest:

1. Collo - despite repeated attempts to kill himself during the year, managed to attend 31 meetings as well as act as CEO of Telstra Dome. Highly commended for his efforts.

2. Lauraine Diggins - Went to all board and football meetings and 9 out of 12 marketing meetings. Probably a shame we don't hear more from her.

3. David McKay - 10 board meetings and 15 Foundation meetings (next best was Collo with 5). Only board member not to go to football meetings.

Since resigned. One of my favourite players from my childhood.

4. M Rose - second only to Collo with 30 meetings - including 11 finance and 4 audit meetings (poor bloke - hardly riveting stuff! - trust me I have a background with that stuff).

5. G Smorgan - 28 meetings - similar to Rose.

6. S Wilson - 10 board meetings and 2 football meetings.

Without being a fly on the wall it is hard to know the internal machinations, but there is a wide variance in what the board members can/do give. I know the three up for reelection are on rotation, but if the three candidates would all improve the current board, surely it would be in the clubs best interests to get them all on the board, perhaps at the expense of someone who may not have the time or energy that the club obviously needs at the moment.

I have no agenda or interest in bagging the current board members, I just hope we can have the best 9 people available on the board.

Would not underestimate what Bruce can bring to the table - and dont underestimate our sponsorship with Dan Murphy. This company is now owned by Woolworth, one of the largest retailers (and companies in Australia).

You are right Agro, it's a real shame we cannot get more of his time around the club. A pretty brilliant man.

I guess the issue is what is the role of a board member - how hands on should they be? (I think when you are broke, the more hands on the better)

Could Bruce do good work for us not on the board?

Maybe we could have our cake and eat it too... Bruce as an influential supporter capable of putting us and Dan Murphys together, but what if he is replaced on the board by an internet marketing guru who can champion Jarusa's idea (I'm guessing half the current board probably couldn't turn on a computer and the day to day staff are flat out with day to day issues).

Maybe he/she can give Dan Murphy's a mailing list to invite Carlton supporters to a wine tasting or international beer tasting day, and we all walk out half pissed with a heap of grog in our arms.

Guess what, Dan Murphys are starting to get back something measurable for their sponsorship dollar, so that they have something to take to their bean counters so that they can easily justify sponsoring us again next time.

I'm looking for Utopia with the right people in the right spots to take advantage of their skills and ensure that we are moving forward and not going around in circles.

What if Bruce has other organisations that he can influence to sponsor us. He has a story to tell - Dan Murphys made $xxx from being able to leverage a Carlton mailing list - how would you like to do that?

I'm rambling but hopefully you get my drift.

Well maybe the Dukes of Hazzard can jump on board as a sponsor down at Carlton as the General Lee is about to hit town!!

Interesting - I called the Club and found out that I was no longer registered as voting member in spite of having voted a couple of times before. I think it happened when I upgraded last year to "premium" from Social Gold (transaction was by phone).

So ring the Club and check if you want to vote!!
