Stuff we learnt today.

The game plan that we had over the last 3 ys was tossed out the window.. and we were allowed to be creative.
We ran pretty hard from attack to defence im not sure how we will come up next week.
Murphy will run the midfield over the next 12 yrs.
Waite still needs to hold his feet.
Walker should be allowed to play a different role.
Excellent defensive swarm going.
Midfield looks much better without Kouta and Campo.

Another positive for me was that Livo was prepared to come to the aid of a teammate who was being roughed up.

I felt bad for Walker when he attacked the ball, took a hard hit and it bobbled loose to Davey who was standing 3 metres away. That goal was soft as.

Did that involve Livo and Neitz as well?

If so, IIRC, the reason the ball scooted over the back of the pack and into Davey's arms was because Walker punched the ball to that direction.

What do you think of Lance's game tonight?

Fun aside - only those of you with young kids would understand how it feels seeing your 6 year old completely rapt. Keeping in mind how he has told me how kids in school have told him he is a looser for barracking for the Blues and how he asked me last year "Daddy why do we always loose, can't we support a different team?"

It's onle one win - and I do not expect much this year, but man it sure feels good right now.

No, Walker attacked the ball ferociously, took possession and was immediately on the receiving end of a heavy bump while already off balance and going to ground. The ball spilled to Davey who was a few paces behind and in the clear.

mikkey... im not going to give a tick to Lance as a footballer on todays game.
I thought today he was ok in some aspects.. and his usual self in others.
For example he mopped up but we had a swarm of defenders back to help him...The Demons didnt really test him and make no mistake.. he will be tested.
I was very disappointed in the Neitz mark when he didnt push back hard.

Having said that he did provide a cool head back there. So i give him a tick for the night because we won and he did what he had to do.

I was imp[ressed with Waites game BUT HE MUST KEEP HIS FEET!
Fev is back to himself.
Betts makes things happen.STAR!
Walker got more confident.GREAT.. lets see him play a more attaking role now.
Murph is a star in the making too.FUTURE CAPTAIN!
Lappin was our quarterback. How they went for Campo over this bloke is one of lifes great mysteries....
Carazzo was solid in midfield...BLEEDS CARLTON as does Bentick!!!
Scotland wasted some kicks but i still liked his game because he was creative.... played the role we traded for him to play...
Stevens ran his guts out and the midfield...Captain next year !!!
Livo was a colloseus.Love this guy!!!!
Barney is underated.... Ditto.
McLaren tried all day.. played for a winning team this week.. unlike his mates at Brissy.
DeLuca looked like he was getting back into some kind of touch. Will create miss matches.
Simpson... How good is this bloke???The mark was GUTS.. the runs and disposals devatating.

I could go through the whole side and say they were very good today with passion and endeavour... i hope they can hold onto it ....!!!

Agree. As someone who has :?: Pagans game plan from day one it was great that he finally released the shackles.
360 disposals to the usual 260
Sharing the ball not just the usual 5 getting it.
Walker allowed to run.
Few taggers
A game plan to help the back line.
A plan to kick it to leading forwards! Or atleast long kicks to 1 on 1 not just packs.

Please keep it going Denis! Well done

Hardly soft.

Took advantage of the situation and made us pay on the scoreboard.

When we kick it shorter out of defence we play better instead of bombing it to a contest

Davey creates goals out of nothing much of the time mainly due to his pace, but that one fell into his lap. Nothing particularly impressive about it, and as soft a goal as a small forward can get.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Dunno what the instruction was, but time and time again, I saw French get loose and drop back in front of Neitz and Livo, while McGrath would hang around the half back flank/wing area waiting for the switch.

And time and time again we caught the Dees off guard with it.

Scottopee.. the other thing sharing the ball around allowed was it allowed our confidencxe to grow.
Blokes that never get a kick started getting uncontested kicks .. all they needed to do was run into space ....
Getting a sniff at touching the football is all alot of those kids need.
even Livo was peeling off Neitz to create a loose man for an option.

Lets hope he doesnt get dropped this week.. cos theyre fast and we dont have anyone to play him on... :?

Even though Walker was allowed to run i didnt like him having to make sure Davery didnt get away.....By half time he was starting to really get his tail up... good sign.

We miss French badly when he's not available because he really does a lot of hard work getting back and filling the hole in the backline. His importance to the team is underrated IMO.

Absolutely. And the fact that Davey was about the Dees' most threatening forward at half time made me pretty confident that we would win comfortably.

Scotland's game really impressed me today. Not even so much his possessions and chasing and tackling etc (which were pretty good) but he more than any other player dictated the tempo of the match. Nearly every time he took a mark he slowed things down, gave teammates time to make position, and ensured the boys were playing with their heads. With that quick switching, in-close handballing kinmd of game the guys occasionally got a bit excited trying to do too much too quickly, but the experienced heads like Scotland took control of the tempo every time.

Waite is incredible - one of those players like a Wanganeen who can turn the direction of a match single handedly with a single ten minute burst of sheer brilliance. He needs to find consistency, though, and do his thing in more than just quick bursts.

All the young fellas did us proud today, too, and there seems to be a real spirit of "one-ness" there today. I didn't even see Thornton yelling at anyone (except the umps).

And speaking of umps I thought they were pretty fair and consistent and largley laissez-fair in their approach and if they go like that throughout the year I'll be happy.
