Yeah we need someone with pace for over there.

A win is a win and while we shouldnt be getting carried away its hard to think of many negatives...Fisher's injury, Deluca didnt have a great game but I would be persisting with him...showed some good nous in the centre of the ground and fed out a nice handball...I know thats not what he is there for but I like smart footballer and I think Deluca has some nous ..like Simpson its a confidence thing ...

Re: Trent Sporn....look I'm not a fan as most know and wanted Daniel Harris in that 2000 draft but its hard to bag Sporn who came off the bench and while he didnt do a lot he didnt a lot wrong either..kicked a goal...should get a game next week...

I thought De Luca had a shocker last night. For a guy whos 6'7 he moves well but doesnt get his hands on anywhere near enough high ball and lacks any sort of physical presence. Sheesh, at 6'7 in a forward pocket he should be terrorising the opposition, not twinkling around like a diva.
Only the presence of Paul Johnson on the field saved ADL from looking any worse.
However with Fishers injury he will stay in the side. However, id prefer to see Saddo used as a utility in a pocket and Kennedy hopefully eventually replaces ADL when hes ready.

Wouldn't call it a shocker, but do share some of your sentiment re his lack of physical presence ... in training 1 - on 1 with 50 yo Gary Dempsey, Dempsey wins the positioning contest for the high ball hands down. A number of contests last night he was held out far too easily. However at the moment he isstill probably our best option for the role he is playing until the other talls start demanding his spot.

Cant agree re gameplan Dodo.Bout time Pagan dragged himself out of the 90's into the new century.Better late than never and full credit to him.You can teach an old dog new tricks and it is never to late to learn.Without doubt it was Denis's finest piece of coaching since he has been at the club bar none.

Good news there on the injury front, Fisher back a month into the season and Raso finally on the road to becoming a senior player.

Santy pushing for selection and maybe even Hartlett though I suspect Livo will still get a game... who is the faster leader out of McPharlin and JLo?

His skills are good, but he is just too soft for my liking.. too many times last night he stood back and watched an opponent run away witht he ball or kick it to a target.

Can't really comment because I didn't see any of that in the coverage but it doesn't match up with the intensity he showed when he had the ball and in sharing the ball around.

A bit harsh after he's just played one of his most complete games ever for the Old Dark Navy Blue jumper, all bar kicking a few goals. I'm not in love with him, but I had Houlihan in my Top 5 against The Dees.

Everyone makes one mistake a game. He may have just turned the corner, you never know. There was not one player against Melbourne that didn't put their body on the line on Sunday night.

Only problem (negative) I saw was that when DeLuca put his body on the line, I took my hat off, only to see him get brushed aside with ease.

He needs to toughen up for this level IMO because there are tough nuts at Carlton wanting his position sooner than later, such as, O'hAlpin, Kennedy and maybe even Hartlett if Whitnall remains The General in the backline. Then there's Bryan chasing their tail in the next 21 rounds; he's playing for his career. Fisher will be back in 3 weeks too! Then we have to try and squeeze in Saddington and maybe Russell or Bower later on in the year when they are also pressing for a spot; and that's only this year!

Oh it's so nice have the luxury of depth to keep the heat on.

:x Rubbish, the amount of times Houla ran through tackles breaking lines to set up unexpected attacking thrusts made him one of the best players on the ground in my view. Houla should be praised for the game he had, not bagged for past indiscretions which have little to do with the way he played last night.

Huge positive was Houla. Add another midfielder to the rotation thank you very much.

Houla played a great game and did all the things you just mentioned....but he did still have a couple of moments.

Its not his style and never will be, thats fair enough, he'll survive and still be an AFL player, but when its your turn you have to go.

We've had this argument many times over Hula and many of us have made the comparison to Bradley who was no wuss but certainly avoided being crunched when he could because he knew his value lay in getting the ball and kicking it to advantage, not walking to the bench with a punctured lung.

IMO his skills and endeavour yesterday more than made up for him being an Andre Nel.

Craig Bradley still put his body on the line when he needed too. I don't really want to re-open the argument, just wanted to clarify what Riss meant.

You're kidding me aren't you?

For the first time in ages, Houlihan through his body in with reckless abandon. His precision skill was on show for all to see and played an very good game.
Even Cammo, who is a huge Houlihan critic, praised his efforts against the Dees.

Nah, I still saw him too many times just letting the player and ball go past him, when he clearly could have got in there and tackled the opponent. Sorry but I just dont like that :P and you can stick that where the sun doesn't shine.
