[quote="Blue Vain"]Collo was an administrator Buzz but he was the man for the time.
He just didnt recognise or acknowledge his limitations.

But I cant believe he sold us out.
Collo put more time and effort in Carlton over the past 3 years than any of us would in our lifetime.
I can criticise some of his actions but his

Absolutely agreed.

Sure he did his work and that is granted, but under-writing prime real-estate in inner-city Carlton doesn't make sense really, it's not like we're in Waverly you know - two minutes to the city is expensive real-estate in any corner of the world, expect Collos.

Legend Stand Apartments?

(subject to council approval of course)

Grandstands are like boats Buzz, they're only valuable if someone needs them.
Otherwise they cost you a shitload to maintain for no return.

My biggest issue with that article is the Lorraine Diggins revelation - if it is true (and Caro is usually spot on with her Carlton info, so I find no reason to doubt the validity) then if that is her biggest concern as a board member, she should just resign right now. That is just trivial and ridiculous.

Ah, not sure if the online article has been updated, but there is no comment about Lorraine Diggins that I can see (or maybe I'm just blind)

What was it?

Sorry, as someone pointed out different article - mixing my aritcles. Too much going on today!!!

I dont understand what your point is. :?

Are you suggesting Pagan drafted recycled players because the board instructed him to?

Or are you suggesting he had to because the kids were'nt ready?

Or did Pagan recycle players because he wanted "strong bodies" to play "direct, efficient , collision" football?
B&C. I'm saying that essentially Pagan did what had to be done regardless of what the board wanted. Things are starting to come right and the Smorgon wants the board to get the credit for it. This talk that the board should have told Pagan to blood youth two years ago tells me two things. One, the board were clueless about the prospects and development of late picks Pagan had to work with two years ago. Two, they are giving the impression that Pagan wouldn't have turned to youth as part of his rebuilding plan were it not for their direction.

If you doubt this, check out the usual feeding frenzy on BigFooty in relation to this article. It has become a Carlton/Collins/Pagan kickfest because of this one Smorgon article. Whether you believe that there is nothing wrong with the article or not, it looks certain that the perception is a negative one from the greater football community.

But his job isn't to say the things that will keep bigfooty calm.

In that why didn't he say something like "We at Carlton have decided to adopt a youth approach to team selection"?

Because he wasn't reading out a prepared speech word by word?

Mate, there's a big difference between saying "We have ordered Pagan to stick to a youth policy" and "The club has decided to stick to a youth policy", it's called finger-pointing. It's a basic leadership quality to not blame your own employees, you can either blame yourself or talk about group responsibility, you don't blame others.

Sinbagger et al, seriously, I'm not trying to be a smartie here.

But where in the above is he finger pointing & blaming Pagan?

Tell us something we dont know...this article doesnt do much for the club and its relationship with Denis Pagan IMHO ...seems Pagan is the fall guy for Smorgan and I wouldnt mind betting Pagan doesnt see out his contract ...considering the progress we are now making I dont think this article was called for ....calling for wins as the key to future success seems to exempt Smorgan from blame and place all pressure on Pagan...

Quote:
Smorgon yesterday delivered a frank assessment of the Blues' current state and his plans for the future of the club

Quote:
CARLTON'S new president Graham Smorgon yesterday revealed that coach Denis Pagan had been ordered at the end of last season to adopt a youth policy and to adapt his coaching style to a less aggressive managerial model

Quote:
Smorgon said that ordering Pagan to stick to a youth policy had probably come two years too late

Quote:
Chief executive Michael Malouf also confirmed that Pagan's new deal involved a "significant paycut"

Quote:
"We gave Denis very clear guidelines that we have to rebuild this club or the club will die," Smorgon said

If you think the above is a pat on the back to Denis then we can agree to differ. The board should either publicly support Denis or get rid of him, anything else is divisive.
