I dunno about his uncle but his old man John Scarlett was a ripper . Tough as nails .

Apparently Scarlett's mum is related to Bruce Doull . Cousin's I think but I couldn't be sure of that .

Cripps is taller than Jack Silvagni who played as a second KPD this year.

No one can stop delivery that is coming in lace out without any defensive pressure on the kickers.

I enjoyed passing on picks this year and trading into the 2026 draft. Beats other drafts where we've picked young recruit after young recruit to sell upside and hope to the great unwashed.

The KPP in this draft could end up as bad as 2010 down the track.

Watson - 196 cms
McCarthy - 196 cms
Mitchell - 198 cms
McInnes - 191 cms

Even the elite KPP in the 2010 draft weren't truly generational players.

So….

we now have 4 small guys…Motlop…Ainsworth…
Evans and Byrne…what do we think will happen…?

We can’t play all four…so what do we think will happen…?

Obviously we’ll play 2…but could we play 3…?

Straight up…i want Ainsworth and Evans to be
fit and ready to go…which really means Jessie
might miss out…

I guess Byrne may need to earn his stripes….

What do you guys think our small player set
up will be…?

Could we have a mosquito fleet again…?

kindest regards tommi

I suspect it's Motlop who will have to earn his stripes Tommi.
Interestingly Davies said in the draft interview we have a dearth of small forwards. I suspect he means we have a dearth of quality small forwards.
You'd think Ainsworth and Evans will get the first opportunity with Byrne as the developing small (the medium/long term replacement who will get an opportunity if he develops quickly)
It appears the Football department showed their hand when they told Motlop to look elsewhere. The fact he appears to have had little options elsewhere and has stayed will see him as depth. Or he'll have the opportunity to push someone out only if he's good enough.
No more games based on potential I'd suggest which is a good thing.

THAT’S right Bee Vee….

I forgot about the…”feel free to look elsewhere” stuff….
yup…he may very well be 4th in line…true…

I agree…if Frankie picks up where he left off…we have
our two smalls…

Did i hear somewhere Byrne can run through the middle…?

I really hope Byrne can become that nuisance player…
a get in ya face type…we need that…

kindest regards tommi

His favourite player is Tom Papley, Tommi.
If he can be half as good our half as much of a nuisance, we'll have a good one.
Good to see you back actively posting young man.

I agree that Motlop will have a few ahead of him for a small forward role. He provided a point of difference in the centre square on occasions last season - I’d like to see him build that part of his game. Perhaps even give him a run off HB now and then. Permanent forward may not be his go.

My favourite player when I was Byrne’s age was Wayne Johnston!
Needless to say, I never was able to play like him.
I love it when the media highlights a recruits favourite player, or who they model their game on… I feel like if this was a useful measure, we’d have a lot more triple Norm Smith medallists…. Just like Dusty!

FWIW, I think Ainsworth & Frankie are most likely as the 2 permanent small forwards.
Motlop will need to either lift his goal kicking or bed down his ability to rotate through the middle as a point of difference. With 5 on the bench, that might be his best option.

On a related note, why do so many people equate the additional bench spot with accomodating an additional ruckman? I’d have thought most teams will just throw in another runner or another utility?

I can see us going into R0 with four 2m players in the 23: Reidy, McKay, Young, O'Keeffe. HOK on bench (Gov starting CHF, Kemp out due to alleged setback), Young starting or on bench depending how ready Dean is. So that gives us 1 specialist ruck but 3 who can relieve him. If any of the above are missing then Pittonet would come in. Would Weiters take Curnow or do we go with Haynes and let him follow CC out of the D50? I do love the idea of Charlie trying to wrestle Weiters.

we usually select three or even four smalls even if one is playing off the bench. Foggerty, Motlop, Durdin all played together a lot throw Fantasia and Owies in the mix for mids who play small. Williams can tackle etc but more of a medium tall and mid than a small i think. How you fit Haywood and Ainsworth in i’ll leave to the MC for round zero (geez the round zero concept is one of the more egregious conceits coming out of AFL House in the last few decades and that is saying something).

Motlop seems to please the MC so i can’t see him missing out a lot but it’s great to have selection dilemmas with AFL players hitting good form in the VFL.

Motlop’s centre bounce clearance and running into the 50 fort a goal was pretty handy. am i imagining it or did it happen last year? if he can do that twice a game he’s in the 23.

Harry Dean got asked by media how he would fair one v one against Charles. He said Curnow had him for strength and speed, but should the call up come, he reckons he’s ready for it! can you imagine if Dean lined up on Curnow for R0 and was able to neutralise him?! OMG. not expecting the. match up and if it happened not expecting it to go our way. but one can dream :-) Expect Charles will be very keen to impress come R0. if he plays like he did for us this year he could lose the fans.

Love the self belief but it'd be a bad move to put Dean on Curnow, let the boys who know his game inside out put him on the back foot and hopefully set the tone for his Swans career and our future firsts
