But if the A list decline the offer, and SOS isn't the new assistant, who is? That's the scary part.
We are desperate. We need development coaches, assistant coaches, recovery coach, sprint coach, endurance coach, skills coaches; all positions are priorities and no position can remain unfilled much longer. Then there's the dust that must settle between the board, the other ticket and the coach ( Pagan ).
You think the presidency is a problem. He's the least of our priorities right now when you consider the other gaps we have to fill.
The joint is in turmoil. The trade period is not far away, and we must make this place an attractive place to be, if we are to take advantage of the privy position we are in.
So isn't there possibly a scenario, such as now, that you would welcome SOS (if he became available) if not one of the A Listers were interested? You aint got much choice, and you can't just sit there and do nothing, and waiting for nothing to hapeen before December or March, because we have a footy team full of kids and a club to look after.
I say good luck if we get SOS, or anyone of quality and good reputation.

Interestingly last night on "White Line Fever" Caro, (yes, I know), stated that SOS has an appointment with Geelong next week to talk about an assistant role there. When asked "So he's not going to Carlton?" her reply was "Would you?"
This confirms that public opinion of Carlton may not be as rosy as you may wish to believe Synbad. We are not in the best bargaining position right now. Beggars can't be choosers. That's my point. A bird in the hand....if its even true.

I think some of you are really losing the plot now....
The SOS appointment (if it happens) has nothing to do with coaching ability and everything to do with politics...
I understand the possibility of politics being involved in decisions, but that's the nature of poilitics; it's involved in all decisions. Good point.
However, to dismiss entirely that SOS would be enlisted as Assistant coach or Coach has nothing to do with coaching is absurd...you've lost the plot in your conviction. The blinkers are on Synbad.
SOS would not be selected as a figurehead assistant coach, when we need a genuinely active assistant, and who may even end up as our coach, and you wouldn't want a figurehead coaching would you if that became the case. It's too risky to select him for the sake of politics alone, and for that reason I find it unreasonable to suggest this is the case.
Afterall SOS has publicly stated he wants to be involved in coaching, and given he's walked out on a sinking ship previously, may imply he sees treees for wood in light of our current position. The fact that we've been at the bottom of the barrel so long, the only way is up, and with our good young list, early draft picks, and some cash injection from the AFL, there may be light that SOS sees for the Carlton Football Club. If he is to join us, then that to me is a sign that things will turn around much quicker than you think. It's amazing how many footballers transform after a couple of years and a preseason.
I'm not sure what the alternatives are Synbad. I understand your disappointment, but what are our options for assistants? and, when do you think is the right time to appoint one or two of them to fill the void?
To me it's not about making a desperate decision by choosing SOS as assistant, but making a decision to appoint SOS as he is the best candidate we have before us. That's all I want. Not pipe dreams.
