Yeah but he was a first year player.
Was going to include him along with Hentschel, but since they are first year players and have not been through the system already, they don't come under what we are talking about.

I dont think there is a lot of quality players that get picked up for nothing in the PSD. But I wonder how many clubs are going to be forced into trading players to clubs who have the first few picks in the PSD for not what they want in return. I thought Simmonds did that to Freo. Now a lot of clubs are cashed up and ready to deal it is a differnet market.
I am not sure if a player can put a price on his head or refuse to go to a club though (N Stevens style).

So Melbourne pick up Moloney as a 'steal' then trade him for a draft pick to get Ottens. Hmmmm.

It's why the PSD can also be used as leveridge (sp?) when dealing with other clubs.
However, it can only work if Player X is keen on getting to Club Y.

That's why Richmond were always going to get Simmonds.

Melb wanted Stevens I think and made a deal with Port but Stevens did not want to go. WB passed on him to get to Rawlings also. Might have just priced himself over there heads to get to Carlton.
I think our problem is the stench hanging over our club at the moment. Talk of player unrest and so on. Pretty hard to get someone of quality here with those things floating around. No matter what sort of cash we offer them.

Thanks Jarusa, I went to the AFL website to try to find that, didn't look long, but didn't find anything either.

Not much chop there at all. Very little you're going to draft that you couldn't have got with a 4th round pick in the National Draft. We should feel extra fortunate to have obtained Stevens, the equal of any #1 selection in the National draft, but this was a once off.

Synbad certainly seems to think we'll get a star with the 1st pick in the PSD and the extra cash we're going to have. Early on he pushed the PSD harder than he has been lately, as players slowly sign with their clubs.

You have to wonder how players like Moloney, Davey and Betts and numorus other who don't get picked up in the nat draft...

Hamill's another who could have been taken in the PSD but we ended up taking whatever we could for him rather than lose him for nothing. If you have 1st pick you can force that also as you can always pick them up for nothing if the other club won't do a deal (a la Stevens).

Perhaps Fid you should tell that to some of the cretins over at SS.

Exactly.

I know why garth is such a big user of the  given where he comes from!

From memory, I have never posted on the saintsational forum,. I did post once or twice on the old forum, in the days of spidergirl, before she took to following her hero down to the Hawks den.

I have my own reasons for that, bit like spelly in that regard for those who remember or troll a bit.

These days , I like to keep amused so visit Big Footy a bit .

I forgot this site existed until someone reminded me recently, although I visited once or twice in the past.

Looking forward to a good game this weekend. Hope that there are no furter injuries. On either side. 8)

Blokes like you and Jarusa have no clue when it comes to the realities .. Jarusa is just a stats bloke.. likes to look at numbers that mean nothing.. (Other peoples numbers)

Ok... look... Hamill... "If you dont trade me ill walk"
Gehrig.. the same...
Powell PSD in the same year Luke Penny would have left for nothing to the Saints if he wasnt traded.

You guys dont get it do you???
Someone still needs to hold your hand to cross the road right???
Wow.. the world is complex isnt it?
Jade Rawlings would have gone for nothing...
Stevens left for nothing...
Theres a player who threatened to leave Brisbane for nothing unless he was traded to Freo.
Luke McPharlin said he would go to Freo for nothing.. Freo got him with a second round pick....

The list is endless.

I bet we will be traded a player cheap this year instead of having him walk and i also bet we will get a good pre season draft uncontracted player.

Thats what i like about Jarusas statistics... just goes to prove they mean nothing.Just love the way he uses them...

Nice to see that now all the big names are re-signing with their clubs you've changed your tune from picking players up in the PSD draft to now trading for players who threaten to leave their club for the PSD.

Still haven't come up with any names of players who might want to leave their club.

Lappin has been our best player during the worst period of our history. We should hold firm on the 2 year contract length but offer him an additional $25,000 (we have the room in our SC) for the each of those years to try and appease him.

Lets be honest. We also would also be shitty if he's busting a gut (granted has been down on his previous 3 stellar years) whilst watching other high profile players getting paid 1.5 - 2.0 times more.

The signing of Fev for 3 years when 2 years was the board's "new policy" has had some negative effect.

Not worried about Campo - he can walk for all l care.

Lance and Houla surely must give us some currency in trade talks.

If you read my post I said the PSD data does not help either side of the argument. I was just providing it for people to argue over, I did not give any opinion on it.

So leave me out of it, and start reading the posts for a change.

Brad how about a $100 bet that we get a good player in the PSD.. charity of choice of the winner.. (no you cant be the charity if you win)

I really like it when money is put where mouth is...

howabout it?

and yes i know who the players in contention are...

How do you determine a good player?
