It's like a game of Sale of the Century except Synbad is Tony Barber and he only gives $5 to the answers he likes the most, not the ones that are correct.

Even if he is ranked 61st, he's being paid in the top 20 in the AFL at the moment, maybe even top 10. I demand similar positioning from him WRT play making.

What a disgraceful, shithouse argument Clem and Synbad. He's being paid such high rates because the old board decided to pay him that kind of money- this doesnt mean we should put pressure on him to perform in accordance with his wage.
Direct your anger to Elliott and co, not Campo who pretty much received what his value was at the time of signing the contract.
Yes it is an old counterargument, but it isnt nearly as tiresome as this constant criticism of the bloke.
Yes its been said thousands of times before, but if you could get paid upwards of 500K a year and your employer was willing to pay you that kind of money, you take it.
You work your ass off during the Pre and regular season to play to what you're getting paid, often inherent talent doesnt let you do so. But the guy is getting pillared every week by bigger men with more meat on their bones.

Nowadays it looks like a ridiculous amount to pay when taking into account Campo's output, but it's been signed years ago and there is absolutely no point dwelling on it any longer.

His pay cut at the end of the year will be a sufficient indication of his worth as a 32 year old, much like his last pay packet was an indication of his worth as a 28 year old.

His output has actually gone DOWN since he signed the big contract. Of course I blame Elliott, who doesn't...

But when you take up 10% of the salary cap, you'd better play like it or you're going to cop flak...

When Campo signed his new contract a couple of years ago nobody was complaining. At the end of the day if you were Campo and you were offered what he was offered are you going to say 'no thanks'? Of course you're bloody not! I wouldn't, nobody in their right mind wouldn't!

As has been said anger should be directed moreso at the old administration and board and not at Campo.

Campo isn't playing like a player on >500k a season obviously...and that's why from the end of this season onwards he'll be paid more in line with someone his age and against his worth to the club as evaluated by the current regime..as Josh said he was paid relative to his worth a few years ago and the same thing will happen this time!

But which player honestly is going to say no to what Campo is allegedly on? Nobody! It's easy to say that you would and take the higher moral ground now...put yourself in that position and your outlook might just change.

I'd just like to point out that campo wasnt on 650k in 2004 - in fact he is likely to have been on a lot less. KNOWING that, would he still have been paid in the top 20 of the AFL in 2004? ;)

Exactly the point! If I asked you to pick one player outside (Kouta, Campo and Stevens) to get me 25+ possessions tomorrow, who would you come up with?

Johnson? Scotland maybe? Then you start looking at the half-back flankers. (Houla and Lappin). But really there is no one!

We have three blokes that you have to stop. That's all!!!

Have a look at Geelong.

Corey, Ling, Milburn, Enright, Ablett, Kelly, Chapman and Bartel

West Coast

Cousins, Fletcher, Braun, Embley, Kerr and Judd.

The biggest dissapoint for me this season is the lack of improvement from the 21-24 year olds.

Have Wiggins, Davies, Bannister, Sporn and Johnson etc raised their hand and said "Denis I deserve to be put in the middle. Give me a crack for 3 quarters!"

Where is our Daniel Cross? Our Lindsay Gilbee or Shane Tuck? Or even our Luke Ablett?

We keep bagging our senior core, but none of the middle range players have stepped up to the plate to take any of the slack.

Crisis creates opportunity and we have A LOT of opportunity and no-one is taking it!

Peter Riccardi would get paid more then majority of the Cats midfield. Hasn't stopped Chapman playing good football.

Campo, Stevens and Kouta need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Josh I think you have to judge players by dollars vs output...if Brown, Hall, Tredare etc are on 500K a year and so is Lance then he has to deliver the same output...ditto for Campo...400-500k say average over his Elliott contract ....his output has to be the same as the best midfielders in the comp.....this is part of the reason we are where we are today.

I agree its the old admin who signed him in the deal and the money isnt all Campo's fault but what some of us are saying he has had a good run and now that contract has expired lets look at his worth and long term value and make a decison about him..

I think contracts are becoming more sensible and if Dal Santo is on 400K a year that would put Campo on 150K a year tops IMHO....I think the club will keep him as he has little trade value but I would be prefering younger players like Simpson over him at the selection table and he wouldnt my VC either...

Chicko, as i said in your thread, I think his average is about $500K/year. And you can't honestly tell me that he's worth 500K/year...

In fact, I think his 2004, was only worth 350K/year at best, compared to what other players in the comp were allegedly on.

But CC, I agree with all the posters that say it ain't Campos fault they threw the cash at him 4 years ago. If we offered Wiggins a 4 year $2m contract  he'd be an idiot not to take it. What we have to do is decide what he's worth NOW to us keeping in mind the veterans listing, and he has to decide if he wants to play footy for that price - simple as that.

In many ways I can't bring myself to critisize Elliot for what he did to keep all those blokes because we had created a fantastic team from the ground up, and suddenly had teams from SA and north of the border with salary cap concessions throwing big bucks at our top players. Not to mention the teams in Melbourne who also were offering big money to take our great players (e.g Hammill). Some of which were taking absolutely no notice of the salary cap. This heavily inflated the players worth and the only way to keep them was to bust the cap.

I reckon if Campo taken $400k from Port 4 years ago you'd still be spitting chips about it and taking every oportunity to sink the boots in.

Hey mate, never thought i'd say this about any of your posts but..

POST OF THE WEEK.

You'll just have to keep repeating it to Synbad every week until Campo retires (and maybe beyond that as well).

Good post.

To be honest Duke, I don't disagree with you re: Elliott etc., it's them that should be blamed, but if you're a player who knows you're taking up 10% of the salary cap, then you'd think that you'd have some self-respect and try your hardest, to do the best thing for the team each week and try to prove that you're worth what you're being paid.

Has that happened?

Nah id be rapt he would be at Port doing drive bys for cheap kicks.
He wasnt offered the $$$ by the club. Campo told the club he would go to Port unless he was renummerated by us.
Of course he knew Big Jacks ego wouldnt allow that to happen...

Wiggo would never put the club in that kind of position.
I laugh at those of you who think its opk.. but hate us losing on the other hand.

Were losing cos we have a generational gap of players who love the club enough to help kids mature.
there is no 'big brother' scheme.. where more experienced players mentor a kid or two..
there is no player putting their hand up to take difficult roles.

All there is is a bunch of disjointed players running out there every week with a Carlton jumper on.
the further up the tree they are the less they worry about the club and thefuture of the club.
There are no Buckley like Gladiatorial performers.
all there is are a couple of overpaid players whop cant wait for another round to complete and go home...

Some of you deserve to be shit in the face ...hacve i8t dumped all over you till youre bathing in it...
You deserve every insipid performance that youre forced to watch...
You deserve to be humiliated and to leave early...

Cos you dont care...!!!

I care....

Campo Kouta do need financial help because there is never going to be enough money to look after these guys.
If they need help and all they care about was footy and not dollars.. they would take a pay cut and we can afford to bring in more quality players.

so they dont really care abiout the help as much as the dosh!!!... or is that hard for you to understand Shakin..???

Wiggo Sporn would put up their hand is they wernt too busy chasing Campo and Koutas loose men around the ground as well as keeping an eye on their own.

there has never ever been a midfield with the experience of ours that has been so unnacountable.
I struggle to think of any club whos leaders are so weak and been so average when it comes to leadership as ours.

If you can think of any please let me know...
the Campo kouta thing needing help is bullshit!!!
Stop kidding yourself..!!!
Stop rationalising to yourself.!!!!
Stop being stupid!!!!

Help in a salary cap comes with money being distributed more evenly....

You have to be dumb to think that when a couple of players are making so much money there can be no help!!!!

Want Arkemanis to help them out ???

Who is going to help out a couple of blood suckers who cant perform????

WHO????

Who do they want to help them????

WHO??????

Theyre sucking up 1.5 million between them... throw in Lance and Stevens and there is 2.5 million from a salary cap of 6.2 m,illion...

So how will they be helped??????

HOW??????

Oh yeah... the players who get 50k will pick up the slack.. and when i say SLACK... i mean SLACK!!!!!

Theyre going to get the money and the other players will do the heaavy lifting?????

Koutas going alright. His knee stuffs him up one in every three though. If he had class around him we would be comparing this his year to 2001. If the game plan allowed him to drift forward he would be close to 2000. If we played a pozzie game his number would be right up there.

I dont see why you are so fixated by bucks Synbad. Who have we missed due to Camp and Kouta being paid a Million and millions and millions of dollars??? perhaps we could have coaxed Thompson over or perhaps Rawlings or Ottens.

Get over the $$$ and start preaching about Carlton uniting, the fans, the team , the board.....everyone. Start preaching about wanting every player who wears a carlton jumper gets out there and give it their all to get a win.
Tell us that even though Campo has an injury he is still out there busting a gut and we should give him some support. Tell us when we can Expect French back. Come on Synbad the club needs you.

club, players come out of the woodwork when there is money in the kitty not when there is no money in the kitty...

Players give their all at other clubs because they have role models who give their all...

Tell me this...

How many times can Campo truloy say he really worked his butt of out in the middle???
That he really wore that navy blue jumper with pride...???

When was the last time Campo played as if his very existence depended on it???

Every other club has players that play like that....!!!!

what that does is it sets the tine for the others.

Why wouldnt players not put everything into playing to their utmost around Bruce Doull.`Wayne Johnston or Peter Dean????
Because they knew that if they didnt.. they couldnt look Doull or Johnno or Peter Dean in the eye...!!!!!

You wont get an improvement till thats the standard around the club... that wont happen till those blokes are gone...!!!

Im fixated with money cos the list is determined by a salary cap and were broke and we didnt used to be broke.. but the money was going somewhere right???

Synbad, you're almost incessent emotional appeals are waring as thin as Digby's hair. It actually becomes rather frustrating reading a mountain of rhetorical questions, concocted with a few  and 8) . Argue logically and sensibly and ask yourself:

A) is it fair to criticise Campo for the amount he is getting paid- considering
1) we were more then happy to pay him that amount when he signed the contract
2) it was perhaps even below his market value at the time
3) Elliott was more then happy to throw the money around.
4) would anyone in their right mind who puts their body on the line with minimal support still have the courage to sacrifice a couple of 100K because he isnt in the same class as some other AFL superstars at different clubs AND
5) is it even fair to compare the Campo of 2005 to a Tredrea of this year just because they are on the same amount? Shouldnt we go back to 2001 when he was just coming off a B&F and his output was in the same bracket as a Cousins, Bickley etc (compare him to midfielders of the era on similiar dollars, not gun power forwards who obviously have that aura factor.)

Also, ask yourself without resorting to untruths such as this:

Quote:
Campo told the club he would go to Port unless he was renummerated by us.

Campo did not in any way hold the club to ransom. Just because you have some disciples on this site who hang onto every word you say, doesnt mean you can manipulate manifest bullshit and turn it into gold.

Campo never wanted to leave the club. Fact. I know so from the same person who told me he wasn't going anywhere at the end of this year either.

As I said- his next contract will give a better indication of his worth to the club. For him, the supporters, and most of all for you.
