KB says this morning that Manton has attacked both Pagan and Sheedy (having played and failed under both) for being too old and too old fashioned, i.e. not able to adapt to the modern game etc. Unfortunately I did not pick up where he does this, i.e. which media. Anyone know? I would like to read it. On the surface it sounds a little like sour grapes to me. Edit to add: Found it here: http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,19098433-23211,00.html |

Mantons career ended because he was too old and not able to adapt to the modern game. So I guess he can see it from that point of view. ![]() |

It ended because Pagan wanted his lovechild to get 300. He used and abused our club to do so. |

Martyn was a mistake but Manton was finished. Everybody could see that. |

A few sour grapes from Manton but as others have said he is right..Leigh Matthew isnt exactly going that well at the moment but Manton didnt include him in his bitter attack and I think its Manton having a personal dig and the article lacked credibility due to his immature vindictive approach...... |

Based on what? Basically his last 2 games before Pagan stamped him never to play again were the 2001 Semi Final against Richmond and the opening round of 2002 against St Kila. He more than held his own on those occassions against Ottens and Loewe. Manton still had some decent footy left in him, which is more than you could say about Martyn. I think there's elements of truth and sour grapes in his article. |

My view...Manton was finished and looking for a media career and was using the club in his last years to further that.. and Martyn's recruiting was a sad attempt to get a mate over the line for a milestone under the disguise of needing experience and while we were in turmoil....luidicrous and did nothing to further the Carlton Football club or Denis Pagans reputation... |

Definitely some sour grapes. I don't think age has much to do with it. If it did, then how has Neil Craig (who is 51 yo), got the Crows playing so well? Or how has Leigh Matthews (54 yo) coached the Lions to their premierships? Or Phil Jackson (61yo) been one of the most successful coaches in the NBA? |

Manton apparently has an article on his web blog here http://www.glennmanton.com.au/ I've had a quick look but cant find it. I'm ambivalent towards Manton but reckon that as a premiership player for the blues he is as entitled to his opinion as anybody else and probably more entitled than most. |

Based on the fact that his performances for the bullants were not up to scratch. Your more than entitled to your opinion of Manton having plenty still to offer, but thats where we agree to disagree. |

Manton is probably bitter but he also played under both and would still know a number of people at the club. Pagan got rid of a lot of players, Manton, Murphy, Ratten, Bradley, Allan, Beaumont, Hulme et al. Were they all greedy ratbags trying to destabilise the club or was DP going for the year zero approach? Or is the truth somewhere between? I would suggest Bret Ratten (who still gets abused on this site) has done about a thousand times more for the club than DP, and got less dough per year than DP. There's an interesting post on CSC by Massive linking to a 2003 thread re DP. |

I officially got sick of Mants when he had his big sook on The Footy Show for being dropped. Maybe time will show that he does have a point, but coming in off a long run at 2 blokes who have sacked you is always going to look like sour grapes. As BV said once on TBV, "a very bitter man is Glenn Manton" |

I was a supporter of the players back then and I am a supporter of the players even now. It is becoming ever apparent that Pagan is a poor communicator. A coach needs to develop players and inspire them to greatness. I don't think that Pagan has achieved much on either front. |

Edit to add: Found it here: http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,19098433-23211,00.html Manton writes in the MX Express, which is a giveaway paper to train travellers. He has been giving Carlton and pagan crap for weeks now, and proudly tells everyone his son barracks for St.Kilda and loves Aaron Hamill. GET OVER IT BOLT! |
