Post subject: | Blue Suits Function Tonight |
Just got home from the Blue Suits function held earlier this evening inthe John Nicholls room at Optus Oval. Guest speakers were Michael Maloof (CEO) and Denis Pagan. Michael spoke about the finances of the club. Better position than one year ago. Our annual revenue is about $24m, well behind the likes of Essendon* (about $32m) and Collingwood ($38m). Essendon* gets a lot from reserved seat sales at TD. They average about 17K per game. We do about 8K. Collingwood have the largest corporate support base that drives up their revenue. Had the club not moved to TD/MCG this year, we would have had to ask the AFL for funding. Expects membership to reach about 33,000. Pagan - happy to be here till at least 2008 now. Spoke about the input of Carey, Kernahan and Madden in their specialist roles. Livo will not play this week. He struggled at training tonight (at the MCG). Very keen on Troy Longmuir. With his interupted pre-season, they will give him about 4-5 games with the Bullants, and then promotion. He expects him to play about 15 senior games this year. |

Thanks for the info, bluebern. Did Michael Malouf go into any detail about collingwood's corporate support base? I'd be interested to know exactly how they generate revenue from it - mainly direct sponsorship or are there other avenues? |

JohnM, it's direct sponsorship. I think they have 5 $1m+ sponsors. Michael also mentioned Alan Scott from K&S Freighters, one of our new sponsors. Alan was approached the day after last year's Grand Final (strike while his blood was still boiling). Alan's wife is a Carlton supporter, as well as his daughter, and son-in-law. Was pleased to announce that Alan himself has joined up this week as a member. |

Welcome Alan Scott - I guarantee you that Denis Pagan will not fling any personal insults from the dias after our next premiership. |

very clever. Mr Malouf and the rest of the crew deserve some real plaudits for that snatch and grab. Even prompted the weasel to do a sick bed visit, didn't it - made him eat a bit of humble pie, and drove a wedge in. Love it! |

I would hazard a guess that they guarantee their sponsors, large and medium, a minimum level of exposure on FTA TV, courtesy of Fat Ed and the all-singing, all-dancing, Collingwood show, er The Footy Show. This would make their sponsorships more lucrative, and more expensive than other clubs'. |

Cheers BB. By the way, do you think the Blue Suits functions work for the attendees in a networking sense? Or are they purely a footy thing? |

I reckon Nick Stevens should be allowed a few words on the podium during the 2005 Grand Final presentations. ![]() ![]() |

JohnM The group soon will be creating a business directory of all the Blue Suits members. Hopefully it will encourage more networking in that members can seek assistance in a particular area of need. I think it works in both ways as well. It's great to have the access to people like Michael and Denis, and the functions are always interesting. Last year's function at Parliament was a great experience - hosted by Tim Lane, and talks from Kouta and the Hon. Justin Madden, and a tour of both houses of Parliament. I'd recommend it to people who want to experience some level of corporate support for the Carlton Football Club, at a price that's over the top (2 levels of membership, $100 and $250). |

The Darwin version of Blue Suit is Navy Stubbies and a T shirt with collar, shoes optional. |

Thanks for the update BB.Wondering what your thoughs on Michael Malouf were ? There were initially misgivings about this guy as he came from a non footy background. No great knowledge of management type stuff myself, but i got a gut feeling this guy is a bit of a quiet achiever.Seems to go about his business in a quiet a nd methodical way.Got a feeling we have discovered a diamond in the rough .I am immpressed with the guy myself.Wondering your thoughts BB as you seem to have a good handle on this type of stuff. |
