The single worst error I've seen in journalism, only because who the hell wouldn't know this:

Quote:
The plight of the two Victorian former powerhouses - with Essendon*'s 16 VFL/AFL premierships the most of any club and Carlton's 14 equal second - shows how quickly the competition has changed in recent years.

Would it get reported even if we did?

You reckon the HUN wouldn't be all over a chance to sink the boots into the AGE?

It's the sort of forward thinking, play one off against the other type thing that Carlton USED to do. Now we sit back and wait for the media to tell everyone how shit we are.

very simple.

cut and paste the following email:

Your article pubblished 13 May 2006, contained extraordinary errors of fact. Carlton and Essendon* have both won 16 premierships each. Blind freddy knows that. Your journalist failed to perform even a cursory check, as the error would have been obviously revealed.

We at carlton have a wide membership base. In the event that you wish to ensure that our loyal following continues to support and read the Age, please correct the error, as an apology in next Saturday's edition.

In the event that you do not publish such an apology, we will not sue you for defamation, but you may lose a large number of readers, and your status as a paper of record will suffer.

Nothing will happen, but you will feel better.

Its possibly the No.1 footy fact for all Carlton and Essendon* fans, isn't it? Probably most Pie fans know it as well. Its as basic as basic can be and they didnt get it right!?!?!?

Here's another example of footy journalism at its finest:

Polo recognised for starring debut

Quote:
Dean Polo's starring debut for Richmond in the two-point victory over Essendon* at the weekend has earned the rookie an AFL Rising Star award nomination.

In his first match for the Tigers since being picked up in the 2004 draft, Polo kicked three goals, the third levelling the scores in the final minutes of the match.

Polo was named best on ground for his efforts - winning the Yiooken Award - 'dreaming' in the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people - in the annual 'Dreamtime at the G' clash.

Richmond recruited Polo from Gippsland as their fifth selection and 20th overall in the 2004 draft.

Carlton's Andrew Walker was the last player to be nominated for the rising star award on debut.

Ahem!

it is interesting however, that it is harder to find the information than you think.

I looked on the afl website to find where it says that we'd won 16 flags, and couldn't find it.

Same on the Blues website.
