Hello all, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I have been reading on here for a little while, so I feel like I am getting to know most of you quite well. I am often asked the question "Why do you support the Blues, when you have grown up in Adelaide, never lived in Melbourne, and no one in my family goes for the blues"? In 1993, I watched the Crows (I used to be a Crows supporter) get thrashed by Carlton. Then the following week I watched as Essendon* came from behind to beat the Crows to book a place in the Grand Final against the mighty Blues. I remember that Grand Final vividly, This game was the first time I barracked for any team other than the Crows. For that afternoon the Carlton Blues were my new team. We lost but that game changed my thinking. 1994 and then 1995 changed me for ever. Andy Mckay, Micheal Sexton, Peter Dean, Ang Christuo (pretty sure that is misspelled), and Steven Silvani, the best backline to ever be assemble. From then on I was a blues supporter for ever! Even though I am from interstate, to me the Victorian teams are the real football teams. For some reason the interstate teams (including the Crows) seem fake. I think it is the history, the tradition, the blood and sweat that can only be built up by the 100+ year history that has gone into those teams. And no team has more of this history than Carlton! Carlton is the most traditional team there is. Why do I support the Blues? How can you not!!! |

It would be interesting to see if anyone has done serious research as to what makes people support a particular club.... My story is sort of similar to "Heres Waite". Came to Australia from England at the end of 1969; the first game i saw was the Fitzroy/Richmond game in front of the Queen. The Lions won so i decided to follow them. However, they didnt have that great a season, so after the Blues' great win in the GF I switched to them. My younger brother, who had decided to follow the Pies, also jumped ship after the GF |

Mine is a common story - Grandparents arrive in Australia in the 1930's - settle in Carlton (thankfully they didn't decide on Collingwood). Dad was born in Carlton, family move out to the burbs in the 50's & keep supporting Carlton. By the time I arrived on the scene, I was given no choice on who to support, neither have my boys, hopefully same goes for future genertations. |

Grew up in Hampton Victoria. Went to a few St Kilda games as a youngster ( up until i was about 8 ). My Uncle used to pick me up and we'd walk to Linton Street. They used to open the gates at half time so the freebee was a good thing, so too St Kilda being crap. Anyway after one game i asked my Uncle who he followed and he said Carlton  . I was confused... Then i got home asked Dad who he followed and he said Carlton also. So it was final i was a Carlton supporter.
Both my uncle and my father have passed away, but the Blue Legacy lives on. I 'm still a Carlton man will always be a Carlton Man and i still love watching St Kilda Lose, just like when i was a little boy. Confusing at the time ( 8 ) but i'm thankful and very proud now... And thus one of many reasons i hate St Kilda. My parents and family being "New Australians" didn't really do public transport in those days. |

My father was a Dees supporter throughout the glory days. Unfortunately for him when I was about 4 years old he was extremely busy and I was taken to my first footy match by the Hookers from across the road. They gave me a little Blues jumper (with the glossy plastic monogram that would eventually break up in the wash) and we sat on the flank at Waverley. Shitty weather, don't remember the score or the opposition but I do remember Alex Jesaulenko flying so high that he looked like he was going to stay up there for dinner. That was when they told me that the number on the back of my new jumper was the same as the one on the back of the bloke in the stratosphere. No going back. 
Sorry Dad. Life would be very different as a Dees supporter.

I think my Carlton ancestory started in WA, my Grandfather grew up there and followed a team that was called the 2 blues? I think this is correct. Anyway my father was always Carlton and I started going when I was about 5. Use to sit in the press box so had to be very quiet which was hard as a youngster. |

My first recollection that i can remember was 1979 harmes to sheldon....as a boy is what converted me...and my first heart break was my first game my dad ever took me to was the controversail time wasting epsiode with Mike fitzpatrick and Neale daniher...damn those bombers!! and this made me love the navy blue even more!!!! Ahh the days of princess park and famous carlton victories....the comebacks from no where...the mosquiteo fleet...the footy marathons the night before grand finals and they would show carlton famous grand final wins....wow how luck were we to love the navy blue!!!! We will rise again!!!!! |

i have been a bluebagger for every day in my life except for 8 hours, which so happened to be the first 8 hours in my life. my uncle went and bought me a membership the morning after i was born and have been a member every day since then, which now is over 22 years. |

I am also originally from adelaide. My team is really Norwood. I had my 7th birthday at the 1982 GF when Norwood beat Glenelg. The best birthday present that I have ever had. BUT In 1982 I watched Carlton play for the first time. From the first moment I saw him play my favourite player was Kenny Hunter. The next week I asked dad for a Carlton jumper and my mum sowed a number 9 on the back. A month later and the blues won the flag. I WAS HOOKED! In 1994 I moved to Melb for work and rented a house in Brunswick, just so I could walk to PP. The greatest park on earth. From that point my bond to the navy blue is stronger than ever. Through thick and thriugh thin I will always be a blue and so will my children. |

Two sisters are Carlton, Brother is Collignwood all 3 fighting over who i should suport. Sister took me to the footy so in the end i chose the right team. By the age of 3 i had already chosen my favourite player on my own, Peter Dean! Loved the guy. Then my sister used to take me to training after school. |

Back atchya Waitey .. being in and from Sydney doesn't make it easy when you don't want to support the Swans. But I'll always remember that 101-point flogging in the 2004 who-cares round-1 ... heheh .. bloody Swans bogans. Joining the Blues during the down-time is the best time, coz it can only get better.
