From The Age this morning:
Quote:
"Carlton today is the only football club we're working with that manages a stadium that doesn't generate any revenue," Demetriou said.

What about all the other ex-VFL grounds? Do they generate revenue for their clubs? I know Pura Cup matches are held at Punt Road, and Junction Oval but what about Whitten Oval, Windy Hill, Arden St etc?

Why has Princes Park been so systematically and deliberately shunned?

Surely given the lack of curtain-raisers at the AFL, the reserves/VFL matches could be based at PP, and even the VFL be moved there as their headquarters?

Even setting aside any ridiculous bias The Spew may have against Carlton, even a bonehead like him can understand that it's in the code's best interests to have a ground like Princes Park available to them if required. For Princes Park to be allowed to moulder and rot would be a crime, not just against our Club, but would rob the city of Melbourne of a potentially viable venue.

Unlike all of the other ex-VFL grounds PP is a fully fledged stadium with grandstands around the entire ground.

IIRC all of the other ex-VFL/AFL grounds have significant 'standing areas' or 'hills'.

This fact alone would mean that PP would cost more to maintain, especially as it at least has to maintain bare minimum facilities for crowds it might generate for hosting U18s carnival and VFL finals etc.

However, the speculation has been that the $1.8M has somehow been inflated and that the real figurre is somewhat less.

Regardless of the exact figures, PP has to be more expensive to maintain simply as a result of the amount of infrastructure that is there already.

Windy Hill has a busy restaurant/bistro, Hall of fame and merchandise shop with Ticketmaster as well as a gym/pool
Arden Street is an absolute hole. But I think the MCC maintains it and Kangas pay rent
Witten oval will be a revenue maker once the redevelopment happens with a gym/creche etc etc

Punt Road has the advantage of being next to MCg the social club gets a bit of traffic from Tiger games there but otherwise it gets used for a few cricket games only I think

What I am struggling to understand is why we didn't include taking care of PP and it's ongoing lease/maintenance costs vs Revenue when we moved to TD and the MCG? :? This defies any common sense or management skill whatsoever  Why is this such a surprise now that Collo didn't see it when we made the move ?:garthp:

because at the time of the move we were told that the cost to upkeep the ground was approx 300k/annum
