Forget the professional bullshit, training 40 hours a week, dieticians, fitness regiemes, laptops what has that got us? Jack Shit. Enough Wooden Spoons to start our own biscuit factory. My Plan for the future: 1) Go back to a player coach. I nominate Fevola (of course, the man is a champion). For a start we will save 4 salaries. And lets face it, he couldnt do any worse than Pagan. Scrap the laptops and statistical analysis that counts for jack shit. Fev should rock up with the team sheetin his pocket, write it on the chalk board and get changed. Match ups - you match up on the guy that stands next to you in the position that you have been given to play. 2) Scrap the warm up. Warm Up should be the thing that happens when the strapper liberally applies decorub to every exposed part of your body. 3) Get a Brewry to sponsor the players. Public to be encouraged to report any player found without an alcoholic beverage in his hand or seen leaving a nightclub before 6am. 4) Turning up at training hungover encouraged, not punished 5) Forget the fruit and Powerade after the game - tequilla with a beer chaser and toasted sandwiches and hot dogs more the go 6) Pay players more for a win than they get for a loss - what incentive is there to be successful if the reward is the same for failure? 7) Tell the players to get jobs. they are footballers for christ sakes, not gods. The fact that they have no grip on reality has a lot to do with their performance Dont think i am right? We won 15 premierships, 11 seconds and no wooden spoons doing it this way.[/list] |

Well I found your sarcasm amusing, but I am always one for the lowest form of wit... I have often wondered if our current team played our 1979 grand final side in their prime who would win? Ok, maybe I haven't wondered it that often, but I did think about it after your post. Maybe I am getting old enough now to remember football that was played in my childhood as being from the golden era (or perhaps it was just golden because we were so God darn good). I know that our blokes would not be able to keep up with the new guys (although we did have the mosquito fleet in that era) but they all knew how to kick, take contested marks and show a bit of courage. I think someone should invent a football simulator that could accurately predict the outcome of games played between different sides in history. What's that you say? I'm speaking shit? I thought this was the thread for that. |

I reckon it is certainly raises a fair question - what has the current approach to football actually done? Is the game a better spectacle? Ok the game might be quicker and some of the skills more precise, but the legends of the game had the skill to mix it with todays lot and managed to do it without every aspect of their lives being controlled. |
